shaunpauls7 131
My new guitar just came through this morning fender CD-60CE.I wouldn't say i am a guitar player but a beginner i know simple 3 cord songs and progressing. It's also something i have always wanted to do so got my old dear to order me a guitar for my birthday and haven't put it down all day.If i was you i would go for it you won't regret it because i know i certainly won't.Was out last night at my uncles and a couple of his mates came up for a jam. When we get together there is always one rule and that's the hot seat lol sit and play for 5 mins or so and just express yourself builds confidence. Hope you get yourself a guitar and as i have been told just express yourself. You can play millions of songs with just 3 simple bar cords. atb shaun

Extremetaz 15
Whether or not you can teach yourself comes down to a few things. You need to answer the following questions honestly to yourself: - Can you sing in key ie:do you know what "in tune" sounds like? - Can you keep time ie: can you tap your foot to a bassbeat or a snare? - Do you have the time to commit? - because it takes a lot of it. If you can't keep time, or carry a note then you're definitely going to need help with it. Assuming the answer is yes to those three questions, then do some reading up on scales and practice practice practice. You'll manage just fine. My advice beyond that would be to start on electric and leave it unplugged or on headphones to begin with. I'm started playing 17 years ago and I still practice with my electric unplugged for the majority of things - save wrecking everybody elses head. Having said the above - there's plenty of folk who will advice acoustic to begin with too, or nylon. I actually started on acoustic at first. Took me years to develop any sort of finesse on acount of it - but there again - it's all subjective and there's plenty who'll have stories of great success from a start on acoustic too. I bought a simple chord book and learned A,B,C,D,E,F and G these a played until I was able to change easily between them, then bought a book of simple songs and progressed from there onto minor chords and sevenths etc etc. I was a teenager at the time and my parents were put through audio hell but it was well worth it in the end. My son is now learning at 9 and it brings back many memories of blisters on fingers ha ha. Edited December 1, 2011 by The Seeker
