riohog 5,793
did it look like when the dogs been running on soft clingy mud and all its toes are spleyed by the mud? No, more like it was gripping. His head was down, as were his shoulders, from a distance it looked like he was eating something off the ground. Claws out, eyes staring, he looked terrified tbh. Woodga carried him to a barn, and i had to run over 1/4 mile to get the car. Just prior we had been caught in really heavy hail and ice rain. The wind was so cold last night you could not feel your fingers holding the lamp.....making me lean towards severe cold on a hot body causing cramps? Took him over 30mins to come right, then it was as if nothing had happened, back to normal? Bloods taken at vets today...all clear, got to get a urine sample when he has been working, so getting that tomorrow night sounds like the dog was in shock!! hyperthermia good luck Quote Link to post

kevin from bristol 95
same thing then ,eye going from side to side ? like hes dizzy ? i think its some kind of shock or cramping from totally over doing it Quote Link to post
paulus 26
you may never find out the cause moll, lets hope the urine sample is ok, do you think yourself he did too much? i suspect not or you wouldnt be thinking of other causes. 1 Quote Link to post
Moll. 1,770
No, his eyes were just staring straight ahead, never moved once. Like i say, as if he was blind. Edging (and hoping) towards it being cramp, and the weather, etc contributing towards it. After all he only had about 15-20 runs on rabbits only, only a few of them were taxing runs. Thank you. kevin from bristol 95
ive seen it a few times over the years and all the dogs have been fine after a few days rest and grub but best to get them checked over by the vet if your not happy Quote Link to post
trigger2 3,153
it sounds like the dogs blood sugar level dropped low this can cause small and large fits and can sometimes result in a dog dying. ive seen dogs that can just stand still with all there muscles in spasm from lack of sugar. the dog probably only had a mild attack and therefore managed to find enough goodness in its body to recover hence nothing showing in the tests at the vets. you can buy some stuff from the chemist called hypostop for diabetics which you rub round the dogs gums in the event of it happening again.
