how many people on here have been blinded when young and niave about the lies hancock plummer etc show deerhounds etc have told , to sell pups and been conned ,years ago plummer yoused to bum the threqaurter greyhound up as the ultimate dog on hares back in the eighties then when they were not that good he tried the saluk cross etc ,did any youse get taken in with the black country sting , as i did a bit but soon woke up as before them there was good old fashioned lurcher to lurcher , this is not a dig at hancock lurchers just about getting hood winked with tale of merle woolly bear all the rest of it , it was a great read as a kid, must be afew on here who were hood winked, the funny thing was twenty 2 years ago i asked the man what were they like at catching he said look at all the pictures i have and stories of dogs i wrote ahah i even bought a book my life with lurchers, fech all about real hunting more about chicken farming

never ead many darcy books read the first one a good while back but that was it , as i says the only book i find compeling is the great game as i can relate to it

storys are great for selling anything and can suck most in very easy not so long back my mate was on here and made a dogs name up and said anyone know anything about it and the topic had 230 replies of people tell us were and who bred it etc... funny as hell ,what im getting at is people dream and theres no bigger dreamer than the average working man and hunting lurchers is the average working mans sport

 

the books the pics and the people there selling something that just dont exsit your dreams

I had running dogs before Plummer wrote his books, and to be honest, although his books were a decent read, I still prefer Walsh, Col. Hancock, (not THAT Hancock !!), Douglas-Todd, and even Drabble, before he turned "anti" ! I remember Plummer coming up here to buy Miniture Jack Russels and Game birds...after 10 minutes of his patter, he was laughed out of the bar !! Nothing wrong with reading books, as long as you realise they are just the authors opinions ! I've read a couple of Darcy's books and enjoyed them. I sent one to a pal in Aussie who took me hunting, and I think he enjoyed it too. Reading books is fine; but won't give you the experience that actualy getting out does !!

ye kevin got a book written but better left for another time or done by a mate of mines over by ,lurchers would just be one part of it mate more about alround hunting fishing , netting fereting net making etc a bit about training dogs ,be alot about weather tides how to get best out of hunting and well the law in general , still a bit early undi but be a walk some were

i think yer wrong with hancocks,,,,mates got a good un,,,and fast enough to take bigger bunnys and the rocket golfcourse ones and got a really good nose,,,,ive slipped my x yearling english derby winner 32lb with this dog,,,and the hancock he has was just as quick off the mark ,,,step for step,,,,maybe he was just lucky,,,,( i dont think he was ,,rough coated and has came into her own last couple off years) if yer happy then yer happy

 

i was gomsmacked when i seen his hancock matching mine stride for stride on that slip,,,but there ya go,,,,nothing is set in stone lol

ye good to have speed have they inbred ability to take ther qaurry away from cover , or is it just running fast like a headless chicken were we hunt speed is a must but it has to know how to use its speed ,only the proper coursing dog types and some of the old collie type ive saw do that drop a shoulder bang games a good one ,an dif your out 2 3 4 times a week, feched feet on long runs as that arable stony stubble fech them do you fancy a run one nite as ille show you were im comin from bring the [bANNED TEXT] fast collie type to as there big fast animals to chase
