Guest born to run1083
I decided to take the dogs for a walk before the weather took a turn for the worse, was only planning a quick walk along the footpaths and back home.Well that was the plan but the dogs had other ideas they'd not been running loose 2 mins when my old bitch(Gem) stops dead still by a bracken patch within seconds her tail starts to slightly wag and you instantly know thats she's located the bunny, she dives in and the rabbit makes his bid for freedom and after a very short course the rabbit manages to slip to ground. Now as I was only out for a walk I didn't have a ferret with me so that rabbit had a close shave. While all this was going on the young bitch(Luna) had picked her own line up now and was starting to work through the bracken,as I got to the brow I looked down just as the rabbit decided it stood a better chance on the open ground.Sadly for the rabbit Luna had been exiting the cover at the same time and with the little bitches speed there was only going to be one outcome, within a few strides Luna had made up the short distance and was picking up the rabbit on the run. After a rather excitable retrieve of sorts.#1 I tried to carry on with my intended walk but once again the dogs weren't having it.I head up the banking to the footpath and the dogs head down, noses once again on the floor when from the cover in front of them a rabbit bursts out and is almost snaffled by Luna but somehow the rabbit manages to evade her but only for a moment. As quick as a flash her heads under the bracken again and after a short hunt the rabbit once again thinks its got a better chance on open ground and he makes his break and Luna is in hot pursuit with Gem right behind, the rabbit heading for a huge pile of bramble and sanctuary only to be headed off by Luna and being turned off the cover straight into the oncoming old bitch who strikes and.....misses the rabbit trys to make its last bid for freedom but the young bitch isn't having any of it and nails the rabbit sparing the old girls blushes.#2 I finally get to the footpath and decide to head home as the rain is steadily getting heavier and the wind is really blowing hard and I've only got a fleece on..........yes you've guessed it,the dogs are off again this time up the banking Luna goes off to the left and out of sight and Gem is up to the right and once again stock still beside a pile of dead bracken. For what seems like an eternity she just stands there staring down then with a cobra like strike her head flies into the bracken only this time the rabbit wasn't going anywhere, rabbit #3. Once again I try to head home but theres no sign of Luna so I have a quick scan of the banking and catch sight of the old bitch heading over the brow of the hill..........just as I'm preparing to stomp up over and look for them I hear the sound of crashing through the bracken I look up and heres the two dogs flat out down the banking in pursuit of a rabbit who was literally flying but so was the young bitch behind it timing her strike to perfection and picking it up and after a little tumble and a roll she presents her prize to me.Rabbit #4.......Now I'm buzzing like a fridge with the young bitch she's on fire. Now I'm halfway up the banking at this point so I decide to head along the banking in the direction of home no sooner am I on the move again and the dogs are hunting again, the scent is really good today and within minutes they're on again this time in quite thick bracken only occasionally seeing the dogs as they pop there heads up through then I hear squealing and out pops the young bitch with another rabbit another nice retrieve(rabbit #5) and some well earned praise and we move on homewards......again. By this time I'm soaked to my boxers and the rain isn't showing any signs of easing so its definatley time to get home has I near the footpath Gem once again marks a pile of bracken with her "statue mark" this time the rabbit bolting almost immediatley straight into "johnny on the spot" Luna and thats rabbit #6. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much has I did doing it........all in all a real enjoyable hour or so when everything seemed to go right and hopefully a great confidence booster for Luna who just seems to be coming on leaps and bounds of late. John. Only a crap pic.......sorry. Great to hear luna is coming on great, that speed of hers is electrifying. People probably won't get just how fast she is with out seeing it. she gains yards by just blinking but has good stamina to keep it up. Shes really showing you now she's almost ready to take the ropes of the old girl. even tho we will both know gem won't agree with that one lol Quote Link to post
