stevebro 7
What pigs is it they hunt in New Zealand? Are they smaller than wild boar? My mates father in law used to catch pigs with dogs out there. We call em Captain cookers as they were released by the man him self, and the purest strain of the animal dont get much bigger than 120lbs but due to x breeding with domestic breeds they can get to 300lbs fat as. my biggest to date was a young pig weighing 218lb dressed (gutted). chartpolski 24,431
Steve, surely they are not all "Captain Cookers" ? The "Captain Cookers" I saw around Tokaroa and down to Taupo were huge ginger buggers, but they were well outnumbered by the typical black, black and white, spotted types of feral pigs. This little bugger was unfourtunate to get hit by a car as we ran him out of NZFP land near Toke. What clubs do you hunt with ? We may have mutual aquaintances, although it's been a fair while since I was in NZ. Cheers. Link to post

The typical black ones are more like the captain cookers. i dont hunt with any clubs just a couple friends for the enjoyment. I havent hunted toke, and dont like the sounds of hunting through thick blackberry as the gorse i hunt is hard enough. all though the toke club is proberly the biggest club in NZ and has a release program of about $20,000 per year so i hear. some good pigs come outa that place. chartpolski 24,431
I've got family in Rotaroa, although they have no interest in hunting, whenever I was down there they put up with me going out in the dark and coming home in the dark, with tales and photo's of some great places and things we'd been up to ! I was supposed to go and meet Barry Crump, but the old bugger died before I could get across to see him for a yarn ! Next time I'm down, I'll give you a shout ! Cheers. Link to post

Guest born to run1083
As said, loads of them about, but they get culled to f**k by the gun boys. The right dog could do one, but i think it would take a fecking beast of a dog to handle a full grown adult boar a lone and un-armoured. By far a harder job than a big stag. Seen a 28inch dog give boar a go look the dog for hell of a ride. Funny really considering there was a herd of fallow right next to the group of boar and he decided boar lol, to do it successfully I would think you'd Need a mastiff type to do them or a very weighty bull type. With brain to hold it in right place as they have one hell of a bite not to mention there tusks, great shame there's a ban now why dont you try your hero, triggers dog it can do everything else including cooking and cleaning or a man of your stature that can bench press 120kg or what ever it was you fed me Grow up fella I don't even know trigger or havnt seen the mut run. And your a fool 120kg is not very impressive at all many a average man can lift it. It's only 17-18 stone most of thl members weigh more then that Link to post
chewton 7
I never met my mates father in law but he tried writing about his time in NZ cos he loved it so much and my mate showed me the bit about pig hunting. Dunno how you do it now but he was hunting the pigs on foot through thick cover, up and down hills and through streams and had to get in with a knife to help the dogs finish them and they dont go down without a fight. Not for the faint hearted by the sound of it...mind you maybe he made it up to let his son in law know what he'd get if he took the p1ss! Link to post

The Duncan 802
120kg isn't that much to press if you've been training for any length of time. Happy to prove it if anyone's bothered enough to watch . Link to post
bringthepain 39
2bulls f**k off man you twat get a grip of ya self your dogs r shit dogs on hogs a great dvd to get see the real power of them hogs ..chuck a good dog around like a 2p piece Aye and a bunch off brainless yahoos running around with 8" knives, stabbing hogs while the pitts holding them. theres wiser locked up. anti alert To begin with I'm far from what you just stated. If you knew me personnally you wouldnt have had the balls to say that only on a computer as I would bring you on much pain fella. Have you seen the DVD in question? I think not, well I have it, and though most off it is entertaining and the hounds work well keeping the pigs at bay till the big dogs are brought along with there chest plates to hold the hogs while the lads cut the testicales off them and then release, that's for reasons I don't think you would have the brain to understand so I won't explain it. Point is at one stage there is a big dog on a hog in a swamp and some halfwit jumps up to his chest in the water and starts swinging a knife like someone not fking wise. Not only does he nearly stabb himself and the dog but he does a pathetic job to even wound the hog while near drowning himself in the proceeds. If you don't think that's stupid then it shows me the kind off f@ckbag you are. first of all I was joking, and secondly dont be sad act and make threats on the tinterweb theres a good lad. bring you on much pain!!!  I always attract them shaun. Your obviously a twat thinking that accusing people off being anti 's is a joke !!!! Not were I'm from anyway, you wouldn't last a crack carrying on like that ! I don't buy that for a second it just proves to me you know less than you would like to think so obviously you try and make a joke out off it to make yourself look better because you've fk all else to say on the matter since I pointed out you bring a prat. You've plenty off growing up to do, or you'll learn the hard way. how daft are you, you dont have a clue who you talking to you mug. Anyone who brags about weighing "your green" at just over 28grams for an Oz is never reyt in my eyes. Your probably an anto the way you took this to heart. Link to post
