Newbie looking to start

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am a total newbie, the only thing i have ever shot in my life is a bb gun! :icon_redface:

I've been looking into deer stalking the past few months now and after watching videos on youtube and reading up on various websites i would like to make the first move to start hunting/stalking deer. What i need is a dummys guide to get me from complete beginner with no equiment or experience to a deer stalker who can happily go out and effectively kill it, cook it, eat it....

Would be nice to know what start up equipment i need, who i can talk to, any experience days, whatever help i can get i will appreciate.

I'm from Wolverhampton in the Midlands and i am quite regularly in Hertfordshire if this helps at all?

I will look forward to your replies.

Thanks,

Ryan.

Thank you for the opportunity, i actually saw the post you wrote in the 'shooting opportunities' section and it sounded interesting, i will have to see how i am fixed over the next few weekends.

I know it is coming up close to Christmas, do you have any preference either before or after?

This may sound like a dumb question but what would be the plan for the weekend....

Would it be a good idea to take a trip down to a rifle range to find out more information there?

How would i be fixed for actually shooting a rifle at a range or would i need some qualification or atleast a rifle myself?

it certainly would help you if not just getting the feel and use and familiarizing yourself with a firearm it will help you with breathing and trigger and let off skills.

Not sure where your nearest Rifle Club is but I suggest you contact N.S.R.A

You will as a probationer be mentored for a short period until they see you being proficient to be left on your own

Regards

Stuart

Make some enquiries with your regional British Deer Society chairman. Contact details can be found on the BDS web site. They often have range days, visits to estates and other together's. It might help you meet local stalkers and will be a good intro into the deer stalking world.

If you fancy a week end up in Dumfrieshire sometime no charge let me know.

All you will need is some warm drab coloured gear sturdy boots a change of clothes if you get wet and a tent, although i could provide one if your stuck.
