obi2 239
I know nothing about the beardies, have never seen one work or know there temperament. Had a few border collies crosses and would like to know the difference between the two. Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
I find the beardie x's to be a little bit more driven hunting wise whereas the border x is a little steadier imo. Though both x's can be mardy feckers at times. Quote Link to post
Chid 6,582
beardies can be head strong .. .the one we have here seems to work with you not for you , and if he dont have enough work he will create work , (he will drop a rabbit then nudge it with his nose to get it running then re chase and catch it if he isnt out enough ) Quote Link to post
whin 463
the true beardie and i mean a working one works like a collie but a bit terrier natured used to go out with a guy ,m c glenn ,his pure beardie was a real feisty dog not like a border and had more a terrier nature ,the dogs that were bred of them were decent dogs saw them cacth plenty stuff , not just rabbits they were the best i saw a lot diffrent from the hanckocks etc Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
Ive never seen a working Beardie and would,nt use a show dog for breeding lurchers, better chance of getting a line off a Border with many generations of workers in its lineage. Quote Link to post
obi2 239
How are the beardies on Charlie, one small collies cross I had fired right in while another was very wary at catching them. She had a few but more got away than caught because of this. Quote Link to post
timmy k 591
Beardie all the way for me, I find the borders a bit to clever and I find the beardies a bit more willing to face things that fight back, just some points that ive noticed although I dare say good and bad in each breed but ive never seen I border work that id want to take home but ive seen a few beardies I would of snapped up given the opportunity. 1 Quote Link to post

doga 50
ive had both and will say one stud out well from the rest ,abitch i had twenty year ago beardie collie grey, had them since and all were average as were the border crosses, the last beardie had decent wind and not brilliant but good, seen here run older dogs out at a young age, some from this site. bullmastiff 615
Would of thought most of the prey drive would come from the greyhound not the collie side of the breeding? I thought Introducing Collie was to add brains, stamina and durability? Edited November 28, 2011 by bullmastiff Quote Link to post
lurchergrrl 1,441
Mine's got Beardie in. She's mental; a bossy hateful cowbag with a permanent grump on. Runs like a lightening bolt tho 1 Quote Link to post

I thought Introducing Collie was to add brains, stamina and durability? I used to sit and watch an old fella training Borders,he used to train them up and export them all over the world to working homes,he told me the biggest issue with them was harnessing their immense drive,it was difficult with some of them to stop them using their teeth on stock, some that made to hard on sheep could be trained to cattle.I agree that the Greyhound will add drive but the drive from the Border can be better utilised in a working lurcher.
