hi mate i would have thought 9 inch is a little on the small side, i think they call em teacup russels if there is such a thing lol if i was you i would look for some thing about 12 to 13 inch if you

ok gonetoearth is a 11" or 12" " size dog ok and what do you use?, online there is many reports of 11 inch dogs being fine above and below.

Had a small russell years ago, bought him at the Pytchley kennels and had numerous foxes with him over the years that hounds had run in.

A very strong bayer who was right up to his fox when we broke in or quite often bolted it.

 

Never had another like him.

who was terrierman in them days ? alun thomas had some good russells --

i posted a pic of a nine inch russell in old type russells. and she was from the pytchley hunt also. she worked to ground but was to light and couldnt hold them.

 

exact reason i will never own one

 

ive had a few small russells back in the day. and some of them where very handy. same as the bigger ones some are better than others. but even the poorer ones could get to and bolt a fox. if used right they where very handy. as for the bigger terriers. if they go to big they are nigh on useless. an earthdog that cant get. kinda defeats the purpus imo

so all terriers have to be big and hard hold till dug too , i wish it was as simple as that , wish i had a key that fitted all me locks aswell ;) Edited by gonetoearth

Not sure, we were down collecting hounds and the kennelman showed me some youngsters he had and i took a fancy to one of them. The parents looked well worked.
