Went out tonight for a shine with the whippet slipped her at a bunny chased it around the field then she went way across the twisting and turning it, the feild was id say about 20-30 maybe even forty acres as she went near to the far end of the feild the lamp (Clu-lite cb2) wasnt strong enough to pick it up then she started yapping, im thinking she was yapping because she did not fully know where the rabbit was because of the lamp not being able to shine far enough meaning she didnt know when to make her strike.

This is only her id say 5 course on the lamp but by far the best and longest.

Has this ever happened anybody, there lamp not being able to shine far enough?

I have seen her picking up rebbits in the daytime

Sounds more like it was a hare to me. Which as your in ireland is perfectly ok. Rabbits dont twist and turn from one end of the field to the other, they head straight for the nearest bit of cover and dive in. Im also guessing the whippets a youngun? She was yapping out of frustration/ tiredness. You need to get her out on rabbits untill she is older. And i DO mean rabbits not hares. A few easy catches (ferreted to nets) should rebuild her confidence. If your not carefull she will start to yapp all the time on everything.

No offence mate, but you seem to be a very naive lad, trying to get your experience by talking on here ! Fair enough if you are getting out and having a go, but maybe you should try and hook up with someone who has done a bit and learn from them. As for your dog yapping, it seems to me it was overmatched, to far a slip, possibly a hare, started to young, who knows ?? Also, if you ARE going to run hares.... get a better lamp.

Cheers.

Could have been a hare you know because she turned it about 7-8 times she was rightly up on it too but went to far up the field and the shitty lamp i had wouldnt shine far enough

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

Hi to all, so I've never owned a whippet before and have encountered an irritating habit that got worse in the last month of ferreting and was wondering if anyone out there has had success minimising noise during ferreting?
So he runs prey silently, almost never barks at home so I was very happy going into his first winter, but.... when the ferret slot machine is not paying out fast enough for his liking he yips at the holes he senses are near the underground action. On top of that, if he runs a bolted rabbit to ground again he persistently barks at the hole while constantly looking at me as if to say "get them ferrets over here mate, I've got one for you"
I've a very experienced collie lurcher who is a dream to ferret with but the whippet seems to make no reference to the good stuff he does. Any ideas on managing this?

      Evening all,
I'm lucky enough to have first pick from a friends litter. He’s crossed his Saluki dog with his Collie Bull GH bitch. I’ve only seen videos of the litter as he’s based in UK. Few different characters in the litter, some sit reluctant off in the back ground others play among themselves two are incredibly forward one more than the other.

What key things do you look for when picking a litter? I’ve mostly ran mine on rabbits, reds and some others.

      Go stead,
      oshea
