Walk out on the mountain.

Recommended Posts

Today, being Sunday, is the day johnnyboy68 and I for a good walk out and mooch with the dogs. Unfortunatly this week, my lad Finn, was in sick bay, after cutting his leg last Sunday. Today we decided to have a walk out on the mountain, which is the past has held well.

Young Tom appeared at mine early, with his two young ferrets, and after a cup of tea, and with the addition of one of my jills, we set off, leaving Finn howling the house down.

Picked up Johnnyboy and his two dogs Gem and Luna, another jill, and off we went. Got onto the mountain, and immediatly there was an obvious difference from last year. This same weekend last year, we were wading through snow, this year, there were still green ferns, and lots of thick cover.

Had a bit of a mooch, and managed to get a decent mark on a nice small set. Entered Toms young sandy jill, that i bred out of my old jill Ruby, and in short order she had the rabbit in the net

We carried on mooching a long the mountainside, and it was very quiet. We did manage to put up a black rabbit, that confused us and the dogs for a second, lying against black earth, unfortunatly it got through some fencing, which slowed up the dogs long enough for ninja bunny to disappear without a trace.

We continued a long, and got s decent mark on a big old set, which in the past has held well. We netted it all up and entered the two older jills, and it went quiet for a very, very long time. We were getting a bit fed up, when eventually the two jills, evicted both the occupants into our nets.

We carried on having a good walk, taking in the scenery, enjoying (in one sense :censored: ) the summer weather. I was in a bloody t-shirt! :censored: But the rabbit numbers were right down, and even the squirrals were low on the ground.

After a lunch break, and a cup of tea, the dogs put up a rabbit out of some tight cover and had a great run on a rabbit, dissapearing over the hill. We walked up, and found them trotting back. Good old Gem, come to get us to take us to the rabbit, she about turned and led up and over and straight to the hole  Nets on, and Toms other young jill, that Johnnyboy bred, was entered, and dissapeared off the box, into the gloom. After a very long time, the rabbit showed at the net, saw young Tom (slack  ), and buggered off, back down to face the young jill. Soon enough, we were digging a foot or so through soft soil, to a dead rabbit

The rest of the walk was fairly uneventful, but none the less, very pleasant. Good company and always nice watching the dogs work, despite not putting as much up as usual.
