for people who are too stupid to train a dog, people had no problems training without them since dogs were domesticated. sure as f**k not needed now

So, I'm stupid? G.F.Y.S. Granted, there have been countless dogs trained to a high standard without one. But, for timely corrections, you can't beat an e-collar. With one, the training moves along

The problem for me doesn't lie with the collar in the right instance they can be a fantastic tool but too many twats get them and use them as a means to discipline the dog.

Don't be afraid of E-collars. ;)

Self discipline and self knowledge, plus the exact skill of how to use a collar properly are necessary. Too many people either don't train the dog to respond to these collars, (they skip the conditioning process) or they get mad if it doesn't work (probably once again having skipped the initial process) and say to themselves "I'll zap this bast*rd and make it do what I want or else!!!" You then have a truly horrible instrument of torture and a very freaked out, damaged dog. IMO only to be used if all else fails or on a dog which is dangerous to itself or others, and by someone who understands exactly how to correct such a dog. And to understand how to correct a dog properly and fairly, you need to understand its behaviour, the triggers to a certain behaviour etc etc. These collars are NOT a cure all by any means.
