moonlighter 1,164
Will they chop a rabbit up, meaning the bones?? I don't use one myself but I could see them been a good tool to have. You could put carrots and other fruit n veg through to mix with the meat. That way they would eat it with out knowing.

skycat 6,174
Dogs actually digest lumps of meat better: it takes longer to digest so they extract more nutrients from it. Chewing bones helps to keep the teeth clean and free from plaque and is a calming and satisfying way for a dog to eat. I only mince rabbit so it takes up less room in the freezer, but they usually get the front legs whole. The same goes for chicken carcases and lamb ribs: leave them whole: easier all round and happy dogs. Chicken carcases can be packed down well inside each other to take up less space. Snifferboy 659
Thanks for all your replies, I never thought I would be talking about mincers with you !!! But I believe it is a valuable tool to have and will always feed raw bones as well, as it makes for a happier dog IMO. But back to the main question where and what do I buy? Are the £70 ish ones any good? Or do I go for something a bit more substantial? Thanks again, Sniffer

Moll. 1,770
Cheap ones wont do the job, get something like a Hobart mincer. Pricey but worth their weight in gold and last forever No reason why folk cant feed both minced and whole. If you get a lot of rabbit then you cannot freeze and feed them all. I collect rabbits till the freezers are bursting and have a day skinning and mincing, add chicken, venny, fruit and veg. It's then put into plastic cartons and one of the freezers will be filled with convenient but natural food, and i still have a freezer free to start collecting again. The dogs also get whole rabbits (fur, guts and all) venny carcasses, chicken wings/turkey necks etc.
