FROZEN PLANET

The problem is that we never get to see the whole picture: had the male already been injured? Was he unable to fight? I hated watching every moment of that: my heart being with the wolf of course. And did the wolf survive? All we saw at the very end was the wolf curling up in the snow yards away from the downed bison: had it been so badly injured that it died as a result? I hate it when they don't tell us these things: IMO whilst these programmes are superb in so many ways, they epitomize modern nature footage: giving us snippets of information, leaving us wanting answers to questions etc. The film makers themselves said it was hard to watch whilst they were filming, so just giving us the footage with no explanation of what happened to the wolves afterwards is not fair to the viewer.

quote: Awesome i knew wolves had a bit about them but that is all or nothing must be starving to not think about self preservation unquote:

Did they have cubs which were starving? Was she in whelp? I saw some footage a few years back about Alaskan wolf pair whose cubs all died of starvation: heart rending footage of the last cub tottering away to die after trying in vain to suckle from its emaciated dam who was clinging on to life but whose milk had dried up.

Yeah seen that last night, brilliant footage that was. I was given the impression that the Bison succumbed to its injuries and the Wolfs got to eat? I could be wrong but that's what I thought they meant as they mentioned that the Bison died, if the Wolf died why wouldn't they mention that as well?

What ever the case it's amazing to see something so much smaller and weaker giving it's all and eventually taking it's prey down.

I think they didn't show us any more because it had already gone on for hours, and the wolf was resting next too the dead bison, so they couldn't really hang around

all night in the Arctic to film a sleeping wolf ?

Would be interested to know if they went back the following day though

yes was some awesome footage, the bison was chucking the wolf around like it was nothing and still the wolf went back for more, hope the wolf survived, what about the big bison taking out the wolves and smaller bison? nature at its strangest or what?

Yes I think the wolf at one point was resting under the bison's chin as it knew it was safe from its horns.

It was interesting to see the wolf getting the odd breather and having to eat snow, to relieve its thirst.

I too was lead to believe from the footage and commentary that the wolf curled up to rest in the snow, because the injured bison was fatally wounded, and the wolf was just that knackered it was all it could do, knowing it had survived, and its prey would soon be dead.

Any person who has experienced a similar life or death fight for life will or may tell you a similar need for sleep at the end of the adrenaline rush.
