It's the Ellie Lawrenson one:

THE grandmother of tragic Ellie Lawrenson was today charged with her manslaughter.

The five-year-old was mauled to death by her uncle’s pitbull-type dog, Reuben, at her grandmother’s home in Eccleson, St Helens, on January 1.

Ellie was being cared for by Jackie Simpson (pictured left) when the dog attacked in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Her grandmother was also mauled as she tried to drag the animal off Ellie, and spent several days in hospital recovering from her injuries.

Today the Crown Prosecution Service revealed that 46-year-old Simpson, of Knowles House Avenue, had been charged with the unlawful killing of her grand-daughter.

She has also been charged with possessing a quantity of the class A drugs diamorphine.

Ellie’s uncle, Kyle Simpson, of the same address, has been charged with possession of a pitbull-type dog.

Both attended a Merseyside police station this morning where they were charged.

The pair, who were released on police bail, are due to appear before Liverpool magistrates next Wednesday.

Following the attack, Merseyside Police launched a seven-day amnesty on dangerous dogs, which resulted in a total of 86 illegal animals being taken in.

I'm not sure but, would this be the first case of it's kind? Where someone is charged with manslaughter because a dog killed a child? I agree mate, this is a long way from over, the media will play this to it's maximum.

And sadly none of it will do the little girl any good.

Any dog can be dangerouse around young kids.

All dogs should be supervised with children, as they dont undestand the way of dogs and read the warning sighnes.

Responsibility, plays a big part. ;)

Total and utter crap.....if that comment you made Luke was meant to provoke a reaction it has. You obviously have NO knowledge or experience of the things your talking about. People like you are the dearth of working dogs.

My heart and sympathies go out to the Lawrenson family but does it not tell you something that a member of the family has been charged. These people should not own a breed of dog they obviously didn't know how to raise. ANY breed of dog is capable of killing a baby......and making uninformed comments and having ill informed opinions helps neither the family or ANY breed of dog.

Stay quiet and let people assume your stupid.......rather than open it and prove it.

got too agree with nickey here its not the dogs fault its the people who keep them and dont no what they,ve got on their hands by that time some poor kid is mauled or worse dead i fell so sorry for the family but its the decent folkes that no what there dogs can do that will suffer

The fact that SMACK (heroin/diamorphine) was found in the house of the babysitting grandma says enough about the irresponsibility of these folk.....in reallity it has nothing to do with dogs!

Cheers

Would just like to add the wordtype has been used a lot through- out all this, will be interesting to see how this dog was really put together no doubt a crossbreed and probably with no pure American pit bull terrier blood in the animal ,judgeing by the weight given when the dog was shot the term mastiff type would be more accurate but why let the truth get in the way of a good story!

Poorly bred dogs in the hands of ill-educated people theres your real problem.
