The Hunting Life Forum charity meet new indoor challenge with DavyT63

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

Well yesterday DavyT63 came up to mine and LJ’s house for an over night stay, do a bit of shooting with me and for me to hand over the mystery rifle to him so he can now film the hunting / pest control part of the review after I have now finished the accuracy part.

Davy met me at my work at around 1300 hrs and I introduced him to my boss and work colleagues before showing him around the TA centre and what was available to us for the June meet.

After a good walk around the grounds and planning each target location and range we decided to go up into the indoor 25 metre shooting range and try out a new testing and challenging shoot that I had devised only earlier that day for the meet in June.

After a quick check zero and Davy producing 2 x .177 calibre 5 shot groups (1 hole each no wider than a .25 pellet) I decided to warm him up by setting up 5 x spent .22 calibre cart cases up at a lased 25 metres and get him shooting them.

Next I put the cart cases in a target base first and Davy had a go at shooting them too. Their diameter is a .22 calibre pellet size and no bigger so very small even on x 10 mag at 25 metres.

Finally I asked Davy to try the new and never tried before Hunting Life Forum meet paper and match stick challenge.

Well Davy being the bloke he is took up the challenge without pause and as you will see from the results did himself and his trusty AAS410 proud.

This challenge is pretty hard i must say and after Davy tried it, I tried it with LJ’s .177 calibre BSA Ultra 2 times and could not finish it within the 25 to 30 shots at 200 bar the Ultra would give me.

I ended up leaving my normal power curve and sweet spot area on the Ultra as the shots started all falling low down the stick part on the paper by different irregular amounts each shot, so I gave it up as a bad job and for another day, one when I can bring in my HW100 with the smaller reticuled Sidewinder scope which will hopefully make the challenge a bit easier.

(watch this space as ill attempt it soon on camera).

The stick part of the match stick is a reticule thickness or even less depending on your scope type and if you watch where the pellet impacts at 8 minutes and 50 seconds when Davys hits it perfect you will see that Davys .177 pellet is nearly twice the diameter of the stick and the match stick heads are only .177 pellet in diameter so depending on your scope smaller than your cross hair at x 10 mag.

It’s very hard indeed and takes extreme shooting skill to complete in under 15 shots.

No bipod allowed, just a sand bag to rest on.

Next we went home where LJ cooked us all a lovely 3 course evening meal followed by us all going over the road to my local pub for what turned out very many pints of beer and shots of spirits.

Due to this fact the lamping that we had earlier planned for later was cancelled and we settled in to a few friendly games of pool whilst chatting to my friends and the locals from the village.

Thanks for coming up Davy, brilliant shooting as normal buddy and next time we hopefully will bag a few East Midlands bunnies aswell.

Enjoy the footage lads

You will be ok Carl as long as you rest the springer on your palm then on the sand bag.

Im going to take the HW100 S and Hawke Sidewinder scope in to work tomorrow and see if i can do it with the thinner reticule on the scope.

I think if anyone manages to complete the challenge in under 15 shots they have done really well. The target is very small and the clip doesnt justify how small each part is.

10 shots would be amazing shooting and truely worthly of the title of the indoor challenge champion.

hi Si

I would like to thank LJ & you for a really good time!

a fantastic three course meal "LOOK AT MY BELLY" it was lovely  and thanks for letting me stay over!

as for the target shooting "well" talk about pressure, this task is no way easy! and not for the faint hearted! :hmm:

Si you really do come up with some challenges to get the best out of shooting!

and i applaud you for that and the time you put in to it! :clapper: :clapper:

it is going to be interesting to see! how well shooters do at this challenge, I think it can be done in 10 shots if you are on form, and check all ten pellets before you put them into the breach or magazine.as it will make a difference! believe me.

cant wait till June now!

Many thanks Si & LJ

regards
