Tyla 3,179
I've had an interesting couple of days. I had to drop something to a clients a couple hours away near some permission i have so thought i'd get it dealt with early then have a couple of hours ferreting as i dont get down there that often. It didnt work out that way and i ended up being held up, didnt drop the steering arm off til 3 and needed to come back the next day to pick something else up. I had a bit of a rethink and decided to extend the trip, kip in the van on the permission, do some lamping and ferret in the morning. By the time i got there i still had an hour of light so got the ferrets out. It was only a jolly so had no nets, just the ferts, a spade and Parker the veteran and Willow the pup. We bolted a couple from the first bury which they missed, next bury we bolted one which was missed and went back to ground in a bury 40 yards away. Light was fading but I thought i'd give it a go. Typically the rabbit wouldnt bolt and the dig was on! Only 3 foot but just managed it before dark! Back at the van i had to improvise a water dish for the ferrets and gave them half the rabbit. The dogs and I adjourned to the pub for ham, egg, chips and a pint. Spent a good couple of hours in the pub letting it get late enough to lamp. Walked out planning my night into ..... Thick Fog. Bugger. Early night back at the van then lol. Luckily i keep overnight stuff in the van all the time as it was cold. I was comfy enough though, dogs were a bit pissed off at no lamping but settled in the end. I was up at dawn and off. I started on a banking that is heaving with rabbits, i was a bit undergunned with only two jills but luckily the rabbits were bolting easily. There are alot of holes everywhere on the bank so the dogs had to be very quick to catch them between holes. Its more suited to more ferrets and several long nets TBH but thats the plan for next time. We bolted alot of rabbits, probably 20 ish in the two hours we were there. They were really testing runs, Willow didnt manage to connect at all but Parker picked up four. It was a case of experience over speed, he just knows where to put himself for the best chance and hes so aware of whats going on underground. It was good experience for her though and you could see her tuning in better and better, it was a real shame so didnt catch but such is life. No action shots as only had a phone camera. Tyla 3,179
You can see why the dogs struggled, the holes were very close together! Definately a job for the longnets next time! Quote Link to post

Tyla 3,179
Good write up, well done the auld yin, I,m sure the pup will start to get her share eventually Hes a good lad, ran the legs off him last night and he really struggled to connect though. Its funny, the pup does well and catches fine on her own but seems to leave alot of it to him if they're worked together. I dont know if its a hierarchy thing or ifs shes just a lazy bitch lol Quote Link to post
