best place to hit pigions with air rifle

were is the best place to hit pigions with a air rifle, i normaly hit them with head shots, but when roost shooting today there was a bit of wind and could not get head shots due to branches moving.so was aiming at base of neck, but they would not drop.. so were would be the best place to hit them.

chest shot with a .22 within a good range will drop them

i have taken a few ferals around a farm yard with a chest shot coming from a .177 but all within 30m id say, but then again thats about the maxium of what you can shoot around buildings.

I wouldn't hit them with a rifle mate, you might damage it!!....you're better off using a pellet!!!

 

In all seriousness a head or neck shot will normally bring them down no problems. Or between the shoulder blades if they have their back to you.

Headshots gets my vote, but would agree with MArksman regarding between the shoulderblades if they have their back to you - hard to do when they're 30+ ft up though.

The crop is where they hold food before swallowing and digesting it.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend shooting it there as a 12 fpe pellet will have a tough job making it through if the birds been on the acorns, haw berries etc.

It'll probably still die, but not soon enough for my liking.

iv used the crop shot before not knowing what it was calling and its worked a treat for me

I tried it too, the crop shot that is, after taking advice on the PW forum.

Out ot 4 birds I shot, 3 flew on. I haven't used it since, but stick to the cranial shot unless the bird has its back to me, then its between the shoulder blades.
