atm i wear british army 95 i think it works well at the atm because i have a large hood on it which is great to cover your face when looking through the scope and i also have put some elastic strips sown on the arms so i can stick long grass through them which works well when lying i just want some proper hunting camouflage that will be able to put up with the elements

I wear what works best on my shoots.

British Army DPM in spring and summer. In autumn and winte i use German Flecktarn as it has lots of bowns in it which match the fallen leaves etc. Works fantastic on my main shoot. I firmly believe you dont have to spend hundreds of quid on cammo, just get down your local army surples!!

Hi Lewis.

Like most of the other kit we buy for hunting, a lot depends on the budget you have, or the amount you are prepared to spend on the kit you need or want.

There is so much on the market to choose from these days.

Worth looking for a broken pattern that will blend in with most surroundings.

Would certainly look for a suit material that was - silent - breathable - water repellent - at the very least.

Important to keep comfortable - warm and dry in the winter months - and cool and dry in the summer ( Well......important to me anyway  )

A suit with a good number of pockets - hood on jacket - side vents under the arms - are a bonus too.

You can always add scrim nets etc to break up your outline even further, if adding natural foulage dont over do it, or it will exagerate your movement even more.

Rabbits only see in mono chrome, dark and light greys, so break up of shape, and slow movement will have them in the bag.

Good luck with your choices mate.

ATB.

i recently bought my 8 yr old son a "Ghille suit" for his birthday as he loves running about playing soldiers with his mates, it cost me £35 and when it arrived I was so impressed with the quality I am considering buying one for myself in adult size (£45) or I may just make one out of all the old camo gear I have stored in my garage, my point being they are pretty good and you can just add bits to it to blend in with the current season.

thanks for the replies, im guessing il have about £50 to spend because of the other items im getting i could do with one that has both top and bottem as i only wear the army trousers i have at the moment.

zini: i have the jack pike oak camo feild smock which i think il start wearing abit more often now the cover has changed

gunny sonics: dont the ghillies suits only work in the summer? i was looking at them but never really got round to buying one in the summer might get one for my birthday in april

The 95 is a good basic pattern. It's designed to work for people whose lives depend on it! I have all sorts of different patterns, realtree of different designs, 95, good old fashioned tweeds and I reckon that the actual pattern is fairly irrelevant. As long as the pattern breaks up the sharp lines of your outline, then it's more down to your fieldcraft than having the latest spangly pattern. For your budget I'd invest in a decent oversuit, you can wear different levels of insulation underneath for different seasons, so you will be warm and dry, which is 90% of the battle. Nobody can hunt effectively if they are cold and/or wet, comfort is paramount.

I've picked up quite a bit of camo stuff from charity shops recently, there's a surprising amount of it out there.

I use brand new old stock british army dpm camo which I bought off ebay brand new still shrink wrapped for 4quid. Its trousers an a hooded jacket, with loads of pockets. Its very wind resistant and supprisingly warm. In winter i put it on over tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt / hoodie and even when its freezing im very cosy in the field. In summer I just ditch the tracksuit bottoms / hoodie and likewise its fine. For 4quid you cant go wrong.
