rob190364 2,594
just wondering wats to be expected from a dogs first season on lamp hes 16 months now an has a few rabbits under his belt although he misses more than he catches at the moment. this is my first lurcher I'm in exactly the same boat as you bud, first lurcher and she's 16 months old and misses more than she hits. All I want out of this season is for her to gradually increase her catch rate on the lamp and build on her confidence and striking ability, to improve concentration when ferreting and to start (hopefully) to be able to anticipate where they're going to bolt from, and that's about it to be honest. It's next season when I'll be trying to take it up a level. Quote Link to post

troter58 1,711
the thing is no two dogs are the same small dogs come on faster the bigger breed takes that bit longer and any dog will only be as good as the amount of rabbits you put in front of them its all a learning curve and the dog will soon learn where its got to be to nail the bolters and same on the lamp the more the dog runs the better it will get as its learning every time out theres no fast way to do it atb troter Quote Link to post

kenny14 656
I second the above - time and experience, coupled with patience. I will add one thing, it's perfectly normal for a Lurcher to miss more than it catches, despite what you might hear to the contrary. After all, seeing the Dog work is just as enjoyable if not more so than a big bag. And if it's got anything about it, it'll learn from it's mistakes. Quote Link to post
