Hi.....

I have just brought two Spaniels one Springer and one Cocker.

I wanted a working intelligent dogs but a terrier or a whippet or X was out the question as my missus isn't too keen on that sort of breed of dog and my house isn't big enough for any thing like a fully grown labs.

I've had people tell me that they will not be any good for ferreting?

I really hope this is not the case as I have real high expectations fir them both although the cocker is proving harder to train than the springer but it's early days yet.

Does anyone else use or have used Spaniels for ferreting? (and before you say it yes I do know there a gun dog/retriever) .

I have seen videos on YouTube of Spaniels being used as a ferreting dog.

Many thanks Si

Hears a pic of my lovely pups.

Bramble is the Springer and thistle is the Cocker.

Back when i started out ferreting one of my pals used springers and they where a useful tool to have when out. They had a cracking nose and pushed a lot of quarry out from the cover(but that's expected from the breed). In my opinion they where spot on for a days ferreting.

Thanks for the in-put chap much appreciated. You've all put my mind at ease. Mickey your springer looks stunning I can't wait to get my two working.

Not to sure how old they should be before they should start to come out with us but I've read that spaniels in particular learn very quick at a young age in the first 3-4 months.
