Tally Ho Hunter 60
i belive holding them back is the way but i know lads who drop 9 10 months they never seem to make the grade you dont send a boy in to do a mans job simple 1 Quote Link to post
SON OFF SHAM 34
Youngest I seen entered was an idiot that was out with us one day he dropped a black dog we question him how old it was he said 7.5 months. Couldn't believe what he was doing ???? Ended up digging the dog but on inquiries after I heard the dog didn't make a year old. That's what your up against. Could have made a decent terrier if it was held off until it was mature enough. Well never know now. Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
one pup i know of self entered at 7 and half months, the lads thought he was a lot older till they rang me next day. saw the pup at the yard over the weekend and holy fook he looks nearer 11 months Quote Link to post
diggory 130
Personally cant see the point in entering a dog until its at LEAST 12 months old..it may do ok entered earlier..but then again it might be the ruin of a potentially good dog Quote Link to post
digger. 615
i didnt try my bitch till the next season as it was the end of the season she entered i wudnt of true her in again anyway.but atleast i new i had sumting to look forward to the next season and shes flying now hope she keeps at it Quote Link to post
Rabbit Hunter 6,613
Earliest puppy I've entered was 10 month old, but I was naive back then, I wait till pups 14 month+ now depending on how forward the pup is, holding back a dog won't do them any harm IMO... 1 Quote Link to post
Mrquinn 106
Thanks digger and rabbit Hunter digger what was your reasons for entering the 10 month old if you don't mind apart from being a bit naivie how did this young terrier act and how did he turn out am not bein rude to the rest but the question was to the lads who have entered a young terrier there selves not my cousins fathers brothers best mate once had a dog I am looking for first hand expriance to get insight on how the dog behaved and how it's personality was . Don't take it the wrong way thanks Quote Link to post
digger. 615
i tink that question is to rabbit hunter Quote Link to post
Rabbit Hunter 6,613
The one I started at 10 month was marking to ground from 8 month old, a real early starter. He was a strong terrier also, so I thought he's wanting to go and he's physically strong enough to handle what's in there so let him go. He was in and out on the first time, just a bit unsure of himself but we got the result with him in the end, his second time to ground he seen the job through to the end without showing, a stiff 4 foot dig to a fox but he handled it, he ended up being a decent digging dog but having faults aswell, and died to ground at 3 1/2 year old.
