quite right mate as long as you enjoy your dogs and have fun doing what you do with them thats all that counts. but gotta be honest even after all these years and its been a lot of years its still much more fun with a good dog than it is with a rubbish one but as you say the main thing is to enjoy what your doing with them :thumbs: .

Good thread boyo,has me thinking of my time out lamping lastnight ,i had 1 of my wheaten xs out with me and the lad that was with me had his young bull x bitch,now we were out to hunt whatever we came across but hoping for fox really but we were slipping on rabbits as we were moching about and the young bull x bitch was running them well and caught 4 through the night but my own bitch just seemed to have a bad night and didn't connect with any but recently i have not been hunting that many rabbits with her but most foxes she has been slipped on she has caught we didn't come across any last night ,just one of them nights i suppose,but i had the same bitch out a few weeks ago and from about 9 or 10 slips on rabbits she caught 7 so i dont know if her heart is not into rabbits as much now that she has been working fox more than anything else recently or simply just had a bad night or do dogs that are worked on 1 quarry have a better chance of becoming good at 1 job rather than a dog becoming an average all rounder

i think it might just of been a bad night for her, as if she got the rabbits a few weeks ago ok, the rabbits are now getting hardyier and a dog that has been off them a wee while might not perform as good till it has a few nights regular outing out. i had a dog once that was ok on rabbits but was mad for deer foxes ect!

i also think a real all rounder is not that easy to come by in my opinion and from passed experience.
