was out recently and had a real eye opener . now i know my dogs are not up to the standard i kept years ago , but they do me ok and happy enough with them in that i have fun running and retreiving a few long ears . but was out in the company of a real top dog recently and really opened my eyes to how far behind being top class mine are not that i ever thought they were .top class that is as they are still young and learning the game . but after seeing this dog running i came away drooling at how easy this dog made it look and a bit depressed about my own dogs abilaty . in fairness the dog in question was as good as ive ever seen in all the years ive had dogs.all in all it got me thinking that no matter how hard you try you will never compete with people that live on the land on top of their quarry and can get a run every day if they want even out just excercising their dogs.its a lot harder when you have to get up at silly hour and travel all night for a run you are never going to get your dog as good as it could be . . gotta say it was a real privelage to see this dog going about its work as i said top class and wish it was mine lol. ps it wouldnt be as good if it was .lol.

Sensible post but some folk just have the type of mindset that when they have seen decent dogs run, they find it hard to accept anything less and imho, there is nothing wrong with that attitude.......

Good post matey and totally correct re: folk who live in areas that hold lots of tackle.

That said, there are lots of lads who make time and travel all over to regularly put their dog amongst plenty of stuff.

IMHO, You just have to be realistic about your dog and what you can do with it.

I want to keep good stuff but I am not blind and I know that lots of blokes could give the dog more work than I can and get more out of it.......BUT, even though I may not be able to give a dog as much as some I still dont want to feed shit.

I cant live with shit, but I can live with the reality of what I can show the dog.

Its the way of the world to want better BUT the trick is is not to let it consume you.............jealousy and greed can corrupt some people.

We all should strive to better ourselves, dogs etc but not to become obsessed with it.

quite true johnny boy agree with you on above post i love the dogs and everything to do with them but when your in the company of a dog thats a bit special it does open your eyes for you and makes you look a bit harder at your own i suppose its human nature and nothing wrong in striving to have the best that you can .or in getting as much out of your dog as you can its all part of the dog game and why i personally put as work in to my dogs as do .. but sometimes reallity sets in when you see a dog as good as i was out with ..

Same as there is nothing wrong with a bloke who is just happy with his dogs no matter what he keeps.........

No one has to feed them except the owner, so its totally their call

As you say, strive for better if your that type of person, its a good thing.......... the real trick is to know when to be happy imho :victory:
