Guest vin
Just had the day from hell trying to get a bit of permission. 250 miles round trip,,wasted journey.... got the big NO from everywhere I asked. Seen some very interesting characters whilst out ..Saw one old lass driving a tractor looked like one of them characters from Royston Vassey. I won't be asking anymore as a refusal definately offends. Its all mine from now on. Edited November 21, 2011 by vin Quote Link to post
southcott 9
I hate going around asking , going to make a real effort and ask the local farms today, will make life a lot easer than sneaking around Quote Link to post
yorkshirehunter 27
its a small world getting permission ,i personally think the best idea is if you see loads of pigeons flying and ask to go shoting them on a day to day basis .get your feet in slowly worse they can say is NO they think there doing you the favour but its the other way round ive done it locally my self and its worked now the lands coming to me ,but you was blunt what you was asking permission for ,ratting and pigeons is a good start ,the dogs and lamps are last orders Edited November 22, 2011 by yorkshirehunter Quote Link to post
paulus 26
most farmers wont give nothing for free they always want something in return, workout what they want and obtaining permision is simple. Quote Link to post
BrianSteven72 369
a lot of farms are plagued by boys with dogs poaching day and night doing what they want trampling crops and worrying sheep and then you turn up and ask for permission and you have no chance Quote Link to post
lurcher330 2,301
My ice braker is ferreting ,start off with that and then work your way up to more stuff and if you can get 1 farmer in an area most of the rest will fall into place once you you have been doing a good job and not acting the bollox Quote Link to post
Guest vin
One of the big estates I asked on was on full lock down due to some lampers stealing a couple of motorbikes and quads recently..The keepers were almost friendly but deffinately not for having me on their patch or anyone else..Said the word was out and they were clamping down on all the lads who already had permission. I can tell you this ..after all the funny looks and the refusals yesterday,i dont think i can face asking again..I felt like a 10 year old in the headmasters study waiting to be punished.. When you ask politely and try your hardest to be nice and it gets thrown back in your face, well after a while you just think f..k off.. I would rather explain what im doing to the coppers when they catch me than ask again. Quote Link to post

lurcher330 2,301
I have worked a lot of places for years without permission and never had any hassel and i have often thought of calling in and asking for permission so i would have no worries but then i thought what if i was told no ,but as it stand i just carry on doing what im doing and then if i am aproached i can explain my case and see what happens from there,.I did get some new permission a few weeks ago when i was on my way out for a days digging and came across a few sheep that had escaped from a field ,i found the farm house went in told the farmer and came back down and gave him a hand getting the sheep back in and of course the issue came up and i was told no dogs while the stock are out but they will be in soon and i can work away Quote Link to post

You could say as well you will do ratting for them as well, but if you in to lamping more so just take your chance .! A mate of mine used to ask for lamping, got the big no , so he still went on . He got pulled one night farmer said i told you no regars lamping on here, and you still came on . next time the police will be called he said to him. So you may as well say feck all with lamping, because they wont let you on,, just get few rabbits and piss off quick Quote Link to post
hellyer189 93
one i had recently said if you keep an eye on the farm at night (because i can see the fieilds from my house) i wont give you permission but i will turn a blind eye, Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
Just work at it, and be honest it really is the best policy if you are into this game long term ;-) Their seem to be too many people poaching supidly and getting caught and this messes it up for honest lads who work hard for the permission. Once you get marked as a poaching wrongun word travels and sticks then you are screwed. Quote Link to post

NEWKID 27,228
Been lucky recently in knowing the right people to get me on some permision. Done a couple of trips with the ferrets and picked up another 3 farms off the back of it, gonna have a walk on 1 of them tonight. I tend to ask for the ferreting first and push for the lamping after, even so 1 farm I've got close to me I've known the bloke for 15 years or so and he will only let me ferret on it still, I've not give up on the idea yet though, a few peolple who "lamp" give everyone a bad name.
