Beef 2
Can someone help with a problem I have with a cocker spanial who gets severe pains in his stomach every 5/6 weeks.the problem lasts a few days. The vet has done xrays and test but all appears to be normal and they have prescribed milk a magnesia when the problem starts, which does appear to help but we can't work out how it happens in the first place. He is on hypoallergenic food. It is upsetting to see my dog in pain. Any help would be appreciated.
skycat 6,173
When the dog gets these pains, does he then have the shits or gets constipated? If he does, then its possible he is intolerant to the type of food, even though it may be hypoallergenic. We had a similar problem, but without the pain: the dog just got the shits really badly every now and then now matter what food we tried her on. Since feeding BARF we never had any more problems. I reckon that this sort of intolerance just builds up over a period of time and then....blast off!Have you tried him on a raw meat and bones diet?

bill88 6
One of my terrier's had a similar thing as a pup.The vet gave it a course of zoroclav and Tagamet, and told me to feed him nuthin but rice and chicken for a week ,sorted him out in a couple of week's.Tagamet is used on people to treat stomach ulcer's,so maybe it was something along them line's? His bowel movements start to go a black colour, he crys in pain he runs around like a mad thing, it happens about once in the 5/6 weeks lasting a day or two but the milka magnesia does help. skycat 6,173
Black stools are often caused by bleeding of the stomach lining: OR by eating lots of raw heart and liver.
