simonrocco 175
i arranged with my mate last week to have a day out with the ferrets today so it was up at 6.45am and out for 7.15am to pick my nephew up then a few miles down the road to pick my mate up who had slept in so i had to knock him up ended up starting to ferret about 8am we got to the first set and the lurcher gave a good mark on a 2 hole set so we netted up i was using some supn poly nets today that id made iv never used them before i normally use hemp and nylon nets but i was quite impressed with them i think ill have to make somemore. anyway we put the ferret in with in a few seconds there was a lot of bumping back and forth then the rabbit tried to bolt it hit the net and desided to turn round and go back down and wouldnt bolt we got a location on 3 and a half foot so we started to dig as we werent far away from breaking through the rabbit moved we left it about 15mins in the hope it might bolt but it didnt so we located it on 4 and a half foot we started to dig again after about 5 mins of hard stoney digging the ferret came out so we boxed it filled the holes in and moved on the next set we moved to was on a little mound covered in dying nettles i thought it was a 4 holer but it ended up being 11 holes when we had a good look found we netted it all up and entered 2 ferrets one of which is my polcat kit and the other was my experianced sandy jill there was nothing in the bottom part of the set so i put the sandy jill in the top end and within a min a rabbit bolted out in to the net soon caught by the lurcher renetted the hole but there was nothing more at home so nets off and moved on but didnt catch anything else off the bottom fields so we had a walk round the top fields and spotted 2 rabbits going in to a set in some thick brambles so after about 10 mins of fighting through the brambles we managed to net all the holes and entered the ferret one rabbit bolted out straight away followed by the other about a min later but the second rabbit ran out hit the net a shot back down but got back netted so stuck my hand down the hole and pulled it out we took nets off and tried a couple more holes but didnt get any marks so we desided to head back to the car and on to somemore permission we looked at a load of sets but we got no marks we desided to give the last set of the day ago which was in this old green house but there was nothing at home so we desided to call it a day we only got the 3 rabbits but it was a good enjoyable day. hope you like the write up and picks. atb for the season Quote Link to post
