trapperman 474
Well it cost me around £1100 about 4-5 years ago when i used to get wood off my mate (whos a tree surgeon) to sell a few loads through the winter. It is one of the best i looked at for the money, being able to split logs upto 24" it works upright or horisontel or any position in between and also i think most important it has auto return so when you let go of the lever to move cut logs or turn for another split it takes itself back to your preset starting point which saves loads of time. I suppose i would be looking for £500 ovno, any less and i may aswell hold on to it for my own use (i dont sell logs anymore)

Millet 4,497
Them machine's and riggy up's would be a waste of time for some of the coin's i have had to split..i can just imagine trying to pick a 10stone 3ft round coin up and splitting it with any of them contraption's.. ..your back would be fooked at the end of the day..and them little log's that they are chopping in the vid could be done with a butter knife.. .. I think i will stay with the bottom one of these two and use a bit of muscle power and sweat.. unless i go into the business selling log's.. http://www.georgecarrpowerproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Axes.html
trapperman 474
My log splitter has now sold.
moxy 617
No good for timber with knots and i can see a few tearey eyes untill you get the hang of using it. Mustard, you need to check the pump on your tractor, faster it runs, the faster it rams! I have a single stroke ram splitter which it tractor mounted and it does absolutely fine. Watch this for a bit of kit
moxy 617
My splitter, made from odds and sods, not the best picture but it does the job
jigsaw 11,866
Jaysus lads and lassies its a domestic set up Im talking about here,Im not starting a bloody saw mill out in the back garden. I was thinking the contraption I put up would be fine tucked away in the corner and used when necessary.I think the tractor set ups are a bit big to get down the shared alley to the back, lol.Any close up of the splitter Moxy.I too have a 7 lb spliting axe and a hand natchet and a spike for spliting but I STILL SAY THAT SPRINGY THINGY WOULD BE A GREAT AID OUT THE GARDEN. moxy 617
Your contraption would have its uses and im certainly not dissmissing it, a nice piece of straight ash or birch and your laughing, it would certainly save your back. I dont have any close ups of my splitter but i can take some to show you how crude it is!! However it does the job and does it well. In the picture is about an hour and halfs splitting, which isnt bad for a single blade. But as you rightly say, No good without a tractor or acres of space.
