redpat1 225
I wanted to update all of the guys who gave me some help and advice in training my Deer/Grey X Whip (My 1st Lurcher). In particular the knowledge and advice passed on from Skycat, Casso and Inan, it has been a real help. Jess is coming up for 9 months and is now statring to show some potential after a lot of issues with wrecking the house, chucking her shit around and generally doing the oppostite of what I wanted. After going back to the drawing board with a patient and more gentle approach we have really bonded and managed to come to an understanding. She is no longer destroying the house and our possesions and has started to retrieve to hand, responding to recall and usually is a pleasure to have around, a really good companion. I am now going to start to ease her on to the real thing over the next few months as I get the feeling she is ready and willing. I know there will be some ups and downs but I feel like I am getting something out of the deal now! Kindest Regards Pat 1 Quote Link to post

redpat1 225
by the way, if anyone is in the Kent area and wouldnt mind a tag-a-long so the pup can see an older more experienced dog in action that would be great. I just think she could learn a lot from being shown how it is done so she can see what I am after. I have been told this is the best way to help her piece it all together. Quote Link to post

redpat1 225
Hi Matt, I will put some pics on next week when I recieve her Strongstuff Collar. When ever we are mooching people stop me and offer to take her off my hands and ask all about her, if they new the stuff she has destroyed they would run a mile. Quote Link to post
mattyg 1,862
i feel your pain.....lol, ive got a few chewed door frames and shoes for my troubles, part and parcel of owning a little shit, oops i mean lurcher pup.lol has she thrown to the whippet side or the bigger side? matt Quote Link to post
redpat1 225
Defo more of a whip in size and build, her coat is becoming more wirey and Grey by the day in certain areas though. She was black and smooth with a white blaze as a small pup, not sure how much more she will change. She destroyed everything from furniture to clothing then moved on to kids toys, books and electrical goods. Then she just stopped although she continues to wreck the garden, lawn is a mud pit and I am constantly getting an earful when she rips up the plants. Quote Link to post

redpat1 225
Cheers KL, doesnt feel like a success story just yet. Still a fair way to go but like I said, feeling like I am getting a bit back now. I think guys dont realise the work, patience and time etc needed in trying to bring on a young lurcher, especially when it is their 1st one. All the best Pat Quote Link to post
