andyfr1968 772
I've been doing a bit of fiddling with my own and a mate's HW90s and have found something that seems rather strange to this particular rifle that I've never come across before. I'll try to explain this as best as I can after a couple of beers, so here goes. Firstly my mate Paul got himself a 90 under my recomendation last year, it was in .22 but Paul fancied trying .177 after cutting his teeth on .22. He's fairly new to the sport and had been using my old Lightning for pest control on his small holding. I had a spare .177 barrel from my own 90 ( I've had this rifle since 1995) as I changed to .20 a couple of years back. I gave him what was left from the tin of Baracudas that I'd always found to shoot best from that barrel when it was fitted to my action. Tried it on his gun and they were shite.....It did shoot very well with JSB Exact, Crosman Premiers and Loguns. All of which did not perform well when that barrel was fitted to my own action. Today I tried my own .20 90 for the first time after a strip, re-build and service. Before my rifle shot best with Baracudas and FTTs. Now after it's service the Baracudas (same tin of pellets!!!) shotgun the target but the FTTs are spot on I've never held much faith with airgun 'harmonics', but now I'm not so sure Anyone else had problems like this.....? Cheers. Edited November 20, 2011 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
mikeyblue 28
Hi Andy, I had a similar scenario on my R10. Brought it second hand, it loved any of the JSB made pellets. It went to Tench for some lovin', and shotgunned the JSB's. Now it loves the Crosman Prem type pellets like Daystate Li's, and with these its the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. I put this down to the change in reg pressure though. Tench turns the reg up to around 90bar so you get a shorter, more powerful charge of air so in theory getting a better breach seal. Funny things these air rifle thingys Kind Regards, Mikey. Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
They are odd things, Mikey My mate decided to service his 90 as it was rather old and an unknown quantity so he jerrey-rigged a pump using Theobens adapter and an old shock pump he had for his mountain bike's suspension. As mine is also rather old and has had a hell of a lot of use, I decided to service mine while I was doing his. I knew mine was a little low on power over the chrono so it couldn't hurt. Before the service on mine it shot equally well with both the Baracudas and FTTs, it also quite liked Daystates. After I'd replaced the seals, greased it up, put it back together and pumped the old bugger back up the Baracudas couldn't do better than about three inchs at 30 yards whereas before they were pretty much pellet on pellet The FTTs are exactly as before and the Daystates are grouping nearly as well as the FTTs now. They didn't before!! Edited November 20, 2011 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
