Had a look out this afternoon on some new land.

Recommended Posts

I got a phone call yesterday from a farmer who had got my card, saying that they had planted a load of corn (i think) and as it was coming up the rabbits were starting to get to it, so would i come and see what i could do to reduce their numbers.

So this afternoon i went up to have a look and see what was what. Luckily the farm is only 5-10 mins away from me, so fairly handy. Met up with the farmer, and followed him up to the part of the farm he wanted me to look at. Couple of nice big fields, with thick woodland to one side and a few small copses dotted about.

Plenty of rabbit signs about and it stunk of charlie

He pointed out where he thought they were coming from, which was of course, the thickest part of the woodland. As there was a bit of time left before dark, i thought i would see what i could rake up before i left to return fully prepared sometime this coming week.

Sent the dog into the woods, and he started hunting well, up and down the steep banks, through the cover, while i repeatedly fell on my ass as i tried to follow.

Anyway, he did well, marking four to ground, in sepearate small sets, amongst the cover, before i lost the light and retreated.

Time for a nap now, then up to sort out my gear, then more sleep, for a 4.30 am start tomorrow, heading across the border
