speedy87 42
Ey up, I've got a wild idea. I fancy getting a pointer or two to use for walking up, counts etc.. Just wondered if anybody can throw a few tips or advice my way as a total beginner with pointers? Quote Link to post
stroller 341
like all dogs get the basics in first and be prepared to wait anywhere between two and ten years before they calm down!.....joking apart they are in my opinion a dog for the hill rather than the wood but ive worked both terrains with them and like everything its the dog and the bond that makes the day. Its great fun training them and that first hunt, point, shot and retrieve i gaurentee you wont forget. 1 Quote Link to post
benny01 1
like stroller said, get the basics in but keep at them, give them an inch they'll take a foot, one of mine is 5 and she' a work horse never stops hunting, excellent at finding game and hard as nails, thier range can be a bit scary.. talking a field away so they got to be sharp.. paulf2461 0
im on my second gsp all good advice once you have one any other dog will never do. theyll work all day and love it . but you need to be strong with them they think that they know best . i used to beat with my first one hard for him as he wanted to work further out but he would work in the line like another beater. started picking up with him as he got older great for long retrieves. had my second for 4 years now only picked up with him and its a real pleasure to watch him work. 4 pickers up in our team 3 gsp's 1 lab. they are quality dogs love the family life, not sure about kenneling them outside sure they would be fine but they love being part of the family. be strict though they will take the piss . do some research and get one you will love him Quote Link to post
