matt_hooks 188
If you accepted a caution, then it's classed as a conviction. Quote Link to post
ginga john 268
Any conviction over three years and you are banned for life from holding any form of SGC or FAC BUT there have been several successful appeals to the European court of human rights as a life ban does not allow for those who turn around and behave themselves The earliest was 10 years after the conviction was spent (thats 10 years after sentence expiry under the rehabilitation of offenders act) so twenty years on and a lot of legal costs later you may be able to go clay shooting again !!! Of course you have to factor in the ever changing policies of the various police forces throughout the UK who are blatantly trying to reduce the amount of firearms held in public hands So in short no, your fecked :cray: Quote Link to post

guyliath 15
My advice would be to google what conditions classify a person as a "Prohibited Person" under the firearms act, then if you fit any of those categories you know, your almost certainly going to get turned down. As someone has already said, if you have been given a custodial sentence for a certain amount of time you are then prohibited. I believe the duration of sentence is 3 years or more. please don't quote me on that. You are going to have to be careful how you discuss it with you firearms officer as they are going to on their guard from the off, if you have an assault caution. yis Quote Link to post

Simonrees 45
I've been granted my SGC and FAC with a Firearms offence! admittedly the Firearms offence was when I was 14, I was charged with discharging an airgun in a public place (a Gat gun of all things) I also had a few other juvenile offence, namely taking from a motor vehicle and burglary, The burglary was nicking a dustbin from a school outbuilding at the age of 15 and the vehicle one was nicking a wing mirror off or a scooter! Any way all this was a long time ago I was 40 when I applied for my SGC and it was granted. I was told the most important thing to do was to admit to having the offenses and list them best I could! My Certificate was granted but it was accompanied by a letter from the chief of police telling me that any further instances would not be tolerated.!! )) Quote Link to post
ryan666 64
if your unsure what it was for id say get to your local nick and apply for your police record, reason being is i know a guy who did not do this and the feo used this to say not to bother again asking for his fac??? reason being he did not list "every offence" but then again the lad was a gobby so and so lol Quote Link to post
dave1372 83
...considering the replies that have been posted and people who have ended up with sgc or fac I would say that you have got nothing to lose ! Quote Link to post
tanktfb 2
i got turned down 4 years ago for having convictions but after reapplying and explaining to my feo that my life is now settled with a family i now have mine with a condition that if i do the slightest thing wrong my licenses are gone which i think is fair enough you act responsible you get treated with respect. the best thing you can do is fill out the forms get some good referees and be honest with your feo if you get turned down but genuinly love the sport then you will do the same and try again in the future all the best lee 1 Quote Link to post
Daveizzy1 0
I haven't been nicked for 15 years, I got a custodial sentence of 1 month for assault (I won the fight) almost 20 years ago. I have just been refused as the narrow minded chief of police doesn't believe that anyone can ever change quite clearly. Your instantly tared with the proverbial brush as soon as your in trouble. As far as police are concerned they look at your sheet and in their opinion you haven't changed, you cant change and you will never change and that's it, simple. Quote Link to post
nick703 447
I've got fac and shotgun an convictions, mainly poaching ,these were all when I was in my teens, early twenties,I grew up and got a wife, children, mortgage,a job,an behaved for 10 years to get mine, I no of 3 people that have been to jail an got licenses, two of sentences were to do with guns an one for violence, these people are friends of mine but two of them should never have been granted a license because guns were involved.
