the people who say you shouldnt walk him to much read to many books i have freinds and they have taken there dogs out from as good as day one and not one of them have had problems i walk my pup twice a day sometimes for a fair few miles i belive it helps them build up stamina and yes these dogs have done 7 or 8 seasons and not one of them have had problems with there joints atb oneshot

We would like some more opinions on this, as with a 12week old lurcher we're getting differing advice! 15mins a day a lot say, but she tears around the garden for about 2 hours a day! do we restict how long she can spend in the garden, and how long can she spend off the lead when on a walk??

i have a 11.5month old whippet he gets a hour walk a day maybe more. some say 5mins per month of age but tbh i agree its load of crap. how can u regulate a puppy running around, jumping on couches and off and generally just rallying around the place? im sure an hour of uncontrolled running/playing "is just as bad" as a hour walk with constructive play/retieval practice etc thrown in. if the bad joints etc were true, how do farm dogs always last an age, especially collies who are out all day running mental from a young age. walk your dog for a time which u feel appropriate, 15min walk is probs fine and the 2hours running mad, if she tired im in no doubt she will sleep. atb

walking is not a problem, you just got to becareful letting them of as they run around with excitment have seen pups in the paste breaking legs in pot holes or running into things and there bones still very weak, just got to watch were you letting them off ground ect,but as for walks you kind a know when theyve had enough, these books talk shit just summit to fill the pages atb kk

thanks for all advise, ive stated walking him for about 40min in a morning with my greyhound and he has around 15 min of that retrieving on park. ive done this because im at work all day and if hes not tired out he runs riot allday chewing things etc and annoying my mrs lol. he loves a long walk and would keep going for miles, i also give him a 20 min walk on a night. he is around 5 month old now so i think he needs to burn off energy and keep fit. i want him in good shape for next year as he will be out 3 or 4 nights a week and mooching on a weekend. thanks again
