That peice is from 2009 , the dog control bill hasnt been passed as law yet ,

This is an extract from the amended dog control bill & it looks like the microchipping will only be insisted upon if you have a control notice slapped on you

Content of dog control notice

(1) A dog control notice shall require—

(a) that the person responsible (“P”)—

(i) complies with the terms of the notice to the satisfaction of the

local authority which has the duty of monitoring its

effectiveness and enforcing it, and

(ii) on changing name, address or phone number, notifies the

authority of the change in question;

(B) that, within 14 days after the effective date, either—

(i) an electronic transponder compliant with ISO Standard 11784

and 11785 be duly implanted in the dog as a means of

identifying the animal and registered on a database meeting the

requirements set out in the Schedule, or

(ii) P satisfies the local authority (by providing such information to

them as they may require), that such a transponder was duly

implanted in the dog before the notice was served and already

constitutes a means of identifying the animal and is registered

on a database meeting the requirements set out in the Schedule;

© that, on an electronic transponder being implanted under paragraph

(B)(i), P informs the local authority that it has been implanted and by

whom, together with the identification number of the device; and

(d) that P or an entrusted person be present and in charge of the dog.

(2) An electronic transponder is implanted for the purposes of subsection (1)(B) if

it is implanted by a person who, in the opinion of the local authority, is

appropriately qualified to carry out such an implant.

(3) An entrusted person for the purposes of subsection (1)(d) is a person who—

(a) has attained the age of 16 years,

(B) has for the time being been entrusted by P with charge of the dog,

© has been made familiar by P with the requirements of the dog control

notice, and

(d) is willing and able to comply with those requirements.

(4) A dog control notice may specify other steps P is required to take, in particular

steps which in the opinion of the authorised officer—

(a) must be taken if the dog is to be brought and kept under control, or

(B) would be conducive to it's being brought and kept under control,

and in specifying any such step the notice may specify a date by which it is to

be taken.

I noticed that but I couldn't find a recent link to the issue, it was on the news the other night that it will be implemented in April 2012. I rang the council and gave the girl on the other end a rough time there, so much that shes getting the dog warden to ring me back ! I'll let you's know the outcome.

its coming law in northern ireland that all dogs must be microchipped and the licence fee is going up from a £5 to £12.50 and a block licence from £12.50 to £32 ... as from march 2012 any body applying for a licence must provide the microchip paperwork ...

and if for any instance you get caught without a licence its a fine of £50- £80 and the courts can issue you with upto a £1000 fine

sham ... dont know why you cant get a block licence as if you have 3 bitches they issue one

btw alot of vets are offering free chipping and if you have an elderly relative (65 and over) who will register your dogs first dogs free any other dog is a fiver ...

For a block licence dogs must either be kc registered which mine are def not or from what I was informed today MUST BE USED FOR BREEDING. I know what your saying if you've a few bitches then you can just palm them off and say you breed them, but hold on does that work well for puppy farming rather than against it !!!! Does in my eyes. Plus I'm definitely not bringing some off my older dogs to any vet to have a chip inserted and then maybe other questions asked. By then all your details are on a computer and you could end up getting a wee call at the door. No one to blame but yourself for trying to abide by the law. That's why I can't see me going threw with it whatsoever. Do you get me ?
