bullxryno 21
now then what do you lads think 270 cal for deer? pro's and con's please lads and what range are they comfortable clean kill at? ATB RYNO Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,100
Really good caliber get a moderator fitted to help cut the recoil, it will kill at the same range as anything else forestry use em,will do any legal game in this country, old very reliable caliber I got rid of mine and stuck with 6.5x55 but you can pick 270s up all over awesome stopping power Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Muzzle energies not far off the 30-06, a decent BC so good downrange energy delivery and higher velocity, hence flatter trajectory than the heavy old 30 calibre, what's not to like? A lot of the highland stalkers use them, and they kill anything if you hit them in the right place. Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
I always fancied one instead of .243 for when I go cf for deer. Nice flat trajectory, and from what I've seen, man enough for any UK quarry. Quote Link to post
dave1372 83
I think I am correct in saying that if you want any Forestry Commision leases then .270 is their preferred calibre, feel free to correct me if I am wrong chaps. Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,100
No thats what they issue there stalkers, yours just needs to be a legal caliber,as far as I know,no one has ever frowned on me with my 6.5x55,which in fair is similar to 270 but alot sweater on shoulder two very well respected calibers Quote Link to post
paulus 26
i wouldnt fancy doing the steel challange with a 270 but very good stopping power on the real stuff Quote Link to post

It was one of the guns you instantly fall in love with and gotta have. I was told it was an Obendorf Mauser from 1934. cheers Callum Edited November 17, 2011 by mangy1983 Quote Link to post

If so, how do you find it, noise and recoil wise? Quote Link to post

I haven't had a job since college ended at the end of May which was also when l acquired the rifle so haven't been able to buy moderator, decent scope etc. though on the job front its not through lack of trying. First thing l will do when l get a job will be to get this rifle kitted up and have a day out with it although with all this waiting it takes the patience of a saint. cheers Callum Quote Link to post

andyf 144
Hi: I use .270 had it for 7 years now, (killed a Roe today with it, nice 75 yard head shot through the trees). Mine is a Browning A Bolt Medalion, (left hand) + Predator 8 Moderator, all I can say is I have NEVER lost a Deer with my .270, my buddy has a .243 and it's ok, but he has had a few 'runners'. I handload, with 59 grains R22 and a 130 grain Sierra Gameking's, well yes it is a sledgehammer for Roe, but mine is very accurate, it will put 3 in a 1/2" at 100 yards. The only downside is without a moderator it is hideous LOUD LOUD LOUD. Quote Link to post
