Why does everybody think the electric collar is the magic training aid? Its usually the lazy mans excuse to avoid putting time in, and before anyone says anything i have had electric collars in my training bag since the 90's, they are invalule in certain situations but require experience and timing, if you dont have both you will make the problem ten times worse............ I havent used it on a terrier before though for some reason i thought this post was in the lurcher section i have seen it used on a first x bull grey that was bought in by a friend at 3 yr old he tried loads of things to stop it chasing sheep then the electric collar was tried and it worked really well although i would not fully trust a dog after it has been know to worry stock. As for pups its best if you get them out around stock from a young age just spend pleanty of time with them walking them on them lead around stock they soon learn not to bother them its best to get it done because a dog thats worrying stock can soon lose you your permission or become a dead dog. Dunkanon 380 Posted November 15, 2011 Report Share Posted November 15, 2011 have a dog here, that was raised round chicken sheep and cats, was great off lead round stock, was walking her one day and something in her went off and she grabbed a sheep by the ass and hung on, eventually broke her off and despite some strict discipline she has proved she cannot be trusted at all off lead anymore around sheep,cats chickens or white dogs, if she wasnt looking so promising I would probably cull her, cos to be honest shes looking like a liability. Now to all the experts, is that because she wasnt raised or brought on properly round stock? I dont think so. 1 Quote Link to post

I dont think so. had one the same mate a good while ago now was spot on then one day was having a walk out with another lad and his mutt and his dog went off after a sheep closley followed by mine, you can never be 100% with terriers they have a nasty habbit of proving you wrong when you least expect it. 1 Quote Link to post
