jimster68 123
last week i was browsing the fieldsport oppertunities section and someone was offering a days ferreting nr malton about 50miles from where i live ,so i maid a phone call and made plans for saturday meet at 8.30 am.the guy said theres plenty of rabbits to go at .so saturday morning came 6 ferrets boxed up 2 x 50yd longnets 50 pursenets and 20 quids worth of fuel,i left home at 7.30am and arrived just about on time as arranged ,luckily his permission was only about 1/2 a mile away .when we arrived all equipment was unloaded from the car ferrets collared up we then headed to a small field ,when we arrived i couldnt believe my eyes as there were rabbit holes everywere and not a a hedge or bush to crawl under ( my permission is all hawthorn hedgerows and hard to work) after a quick mooch around the warrens it was decided that we would long net around each warren and try to cover as many bolt holes as possible, i couldnt wait to get started as this was by far the easiest ferreting ive done and ive only ever seen flat fields bursting with warrens in pictures ,lol. the first warren we entered 3 ferrets and bolted 2 rabbits almost straight away and after the ferrets were given the run around for another 20 minutes a third bolted,so we were of to a flyer and i knew we were in for a good day .over the next 3 hours we moved around the burrows netting another 13 rabbits ,at this point we were joined by the land owner who was pleased to see a pile of dead rabbits and he sat and watched us put the nets around the next warren getting another 3 rabbits ,the next warren was to be our last of the day and it was a fairly large warren and was going to take a bit of time we entered the ferrets and over the hour we managed to bag another 5 rabbits 2 of these had to be dugout one at 2ft and the other at 3 1/2 feet but the ground was mainly sand and the digs were completed in a few minminutes and i was pleased as i now seem to have mastered the mk3 .the land owner was pleased with our result and i think hes going to put a good word in for yorkshire hunter with the other local farmers so hopefully hes going to get more permission .our total for the day was 24 rabbits a couple managed to get away from holes we missed .id like to thank yorkshirehunter for letting me on his permission for the day and i will defo be getting in touch with him again .ive added a couple of pics of the day but unfortunatley ive not got any of our final bag, i took one but for some reson its not on my phone ? 1 Quote Link to post
