Terrier Stuff 0
I had my pup Microchipped but it has already moved onto her chest and I dont think anyone could find it. I want to get her tattooed. Who else has had thier dogs tattooed and how long does it take??? Is this the only people who do it? http://www.dog-register.co.uk/index.html

Guest SJM
It takes seconds to do it, very simple procedure. I do all of mine in both ears and also do them for other peoples dogs if they want it done, allthough I prefer to do pups as its easier. Its basically a clamp which holds inidividual numbered or lettered digits which contain lots of small needles. Ink is applied to the dogs ear, the clamp is pressed down for a second and then released, and then the ink is rubbed into the holes. It does hurt, some dogs squeal, and there is sometimes blood, my bull cross bled for ages, others just give a little yip - I think it depends on the ear thickness and the individual dog. I would advise anyone whos got dogs of any breed to have them all tattooed and chipped so they are identifiable by the naked eye as well as anyone with a scanner. No method of ID is infallible, chips can move, tattoos can be hard to read in dark skinned or hairy ears, but having both means there is more chance of being reunited with your lost or stolen dog if it is found and handed in, or ends up in a rescue centre or pound

axle 63
Thanks, I am in Hampshire If I do get her tattooed and someone finds her how do they get hold of me??? YOU can find her alot easier as the tattoo will be logged and when you report her missing it will match up straight away.
parkstone 24
if you have your dog tattood through the national tattoo register they log your details and then (if) the police/rescue center check for ear marks they will contact you. but be aware that a lot of rescue centers dont bother checking for ear markings?.
