Bit of a rake about.

Recommended Posts

My usual partner in crime couldn't make it today, and my misses was over, so me and her just took the dog and one of the jills out for a quick mooch this morning.

Decided to go and put the dog through a bit of a long gully / ditch, where the cover is still stupid for this time of year. The weather was crazy, t-shirt weather, new buds on the greenery and insects acting like it was spring.

Anyway, there was pretty much nothing to ground, and little would go to ground, the rabbits prefering to give the dog the run around up and down the ditches, where the cover was too thick for him to get on top of them. Some went to ground in places i couldn't get into, and i wasn't in the mood for serious cover bashing today.

Managed to get two to ground, both of which were evicted by the little jill. One went into a small set i have done a few times before, and have always thought was pretty shallow, but when the jill went down, she went off the box, so it shows you how things below ground can be very different to what they appear above.

Anyway, ended the walk with a couple of rabbits in the bag and four miscellaneous that didn't quite make it out of the ditch before the mutt snapped them up. So not a bad mixed bag for a short walk. Dog was shattered from bashing back and forth up and down the ditches in the heat, could have sworn it was june to look at him!

You mean I wasn't there to crawl through all the cover. :tongue2:

Glad you got out mate...........sorry for letting you down.

 Something like that mate. I'm just too tall

I had a quick look at the edge of the main maize, but left it, went over to that ditch by the other maize, and had a look in the gully. A good few about above ground.

Had a nice walk, but it wasn't really a days ferreting, doesn't have the same feeling without you and the crocodile!

Looking forward to next Sunday  I think my old man wants to come, keeps 'mentioning' how he fancies a days ferreting again.

Good going especialy the pheasants for the dog nailing four.

Cheers mate  It was the right situation for them mate, a ditch with cover too thick to fly out of quick, and a good fence and hedge one side of it, and a big number of birds. Didn't really want him nailing that many where we were, but these things happen
