alcamy22 7
hey guys having a friendly disagreement with a mate of mine over the best rabbit cross, we both accept that hypathetically some complete other cross could be the best dog on rabbits but were arguing over the cross that most consistently proves the best rabbit dog i have a collie, whippet x whippet, bedlington hound stayed small only 19 inches he has first cross collie hound 25 inches both catch roughly the same amount as each other we normally lamp together so know how both dogs run inside out his obviously has the advantage of longer stride however my dog can turn his dog inside out although the big dog can turn very well both dogs have good prey drive. this is only about catching rabbits so the argument wouldnt extend to any other game what would you rabbit catchers think Quote Link to post

pritch 335
a lot depends on the land you hunt / type of hunting you do, the bigger dog will sight stuff better on uneven or rough ground being taller the smaller lighter dog should turn better be better around hedges & brash. personally i think 23" tts give or take an inch is a happy medium for a rabbit dog to be able to lamp ferret & mooch about.ATB Pritch Quote Link to post
