southcott 9
just checking i am doing right when i come home from a nights lamping , and the little bitch has worked quite hard. obviously first she is checked for any injury's and then watered , she lives in the house so she is nice and warm , but i was wandering if i am giving the right type of food to replenish what she has just burnt off . tonight she had cooked beef , with grated cheese on top , she did drink a fair amount of water, but do i need to give any thing special to replace what she has just burnt off. ggw 5
Great believer in washing feet and cleaning nail beds ,can b done by hand or with a soft tooth brush. Then rub down to check for any nicks or cuts. Then just normal feed sometimes a bit of warm water on feed. Quote Link to post

jessythewhippet 25
after a hard night out i give mine a bowl of is normal food and if neccesary drink of electrolytes I often wondered what do people mean by a hard night/day, like how many runs/courses would you call hard day/night Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
After the standard rub down check over and cleaning the feet the dog gets a standard size meal of it's normal feed a hour of so after the end of the session. A good rub down and massage can make alot of difference to stiffness the next day. I do use electrolytes if we have had a grueller or two or if the dogs excerted itself more than usual. For a average dog(if there is such a thing) lamping rabbits anything over 15 runs is starting to be a decent work out, but it depends on the individual dog! 1 Quote Link to post
southcott 9
after a hard night out i give mine a bowl of is normal food and if neccesary drink of electrolytes I often wondered what do people mean by a hard night/day, like how many runs/courses would you call hard day/night My normal night is walking from the house for about 2/ 3 hours with about 5 slips if we are lucky , but i have got my friend who shoots interested in running the dogs so we are lucky enough to do his land with the landrover weekends , She had 8 rabbits last night and ran beside the landrover on some of the fields , she is quite a tough head strong little dog and did some fair long runs, i could tell she was tiring so we popped her in the land rover and finished the night with the gun . we where out for about 4 hours . After reading about if you push them to far they can fit with possible death i would never forgive my self, she is just 2 years old now and i hope to have her for a good few years . skycat 6,173
Re feeding after hard work: if I fed dry food, (which I don't) I wouldn't feed a bowl full of dry food after working. Dry food is much harder for a dog to digest than moister meat etc. Dry food also forces a dog to drink a lot more. The kidneys are then having to work overtime too. The body has to work harder to make the best use of dry food: many people would disagree with me, but I've seen the difference between the condition of dogs fed on dry and worked very hard, and those which are fed natural raw food. In my opinion from seeing my own dogs, they lose less condition after hard work, recover more quickly, but hey, what do I know....................I'm just an idiot. :D Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
Love that bath pic , but I really should criticise the way you've heaped the rabbits in there any old how :tongue2: Haven't you seen the beautiful way that people arrange their rabbits after a night out?????? :tongue2:  1 Quote Link to post
