Seriously though I know what you're getting at. I don't get the group lamping thing myself. I much prefer to be out on my own, or with one other person at the most, to slip turn and turn about. whin 463
its like a football match all dogs pulling bodies falling everywere lol did the dog recover saw some nasty accidents some never recoverd and had to get burried ,but thtas hunting for you helps if you no the land and minimise the damage and helps if your dog is wisend up to not going pel mell on rough ground Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
Whatever happened to real hunting? Someone quietly out with one dog, no noise, silently moving through the countryside leaving no trace of where you've been. Maybe I'm just a bit old fashioned, but it seems that more and more there is absolutely no respect for quarry, no proper handling of dogs: dogs lunging on leads when there's quarry running just in front of them: just teaches dogs to get wound up, not think, so when they are slipped they are so fired up and frustrated they are more likely to damage themselves running without using their heads. Trouble is that nowadays there's so many young kids getting into lurchers, they have no one to mentor them, no one to teach them common sense, field craft, care of dogs: no wonder there's dogs getting f*cked all the time, then passed on as no good, or jacked because they're carrying an injury that the owner isn't even aware of, too mean to take dog to vet, just pass it on as no good. Not good times for lurchers or true lurcher men/women these days. And how come this topic was titled "No ( I assume he meant "know") the land you run your dogs on?" They obviously didn't. Dog paid the price. Lamping dangerous at any time, still more when there's ditches ups and downs etc in the land. How many of those dogs ever got the chance to understand how to run dangerous ground by day, learning the pitfalls, not necessarily that exact land, but to be aware of ground in general, field craft. Never mind, probably go out and buy another second hand, f*cked up dog and keep on running, never learning f*ck all, blaming dogs when they stuff up or don't catch, all jeered at by mates, never the owner's fault, all put on the dog for being no good. F*ck it, say no more, I'm off. 11 Quote Link to post
