Anyone local to abertillery fancy a lamp tonight, on the local mountains. Hard to catch with the terrain but good fun and test the dogs well, not the best with the moon but the rain and wind is sure here, can't have it perfect tho can ya lol if anyone fancies it drop me a pm and see if we can knock a few off.

when i was a boy my grandfather owned two farms in cwmtillery .my uncle and myself and a couple other lads walked every hill up for years .loads of foxes there and grouse over the moors but no rabbits .we used to drop a fair few there from elsewhere but they never seemed to survive the winters there. i played rugby for blaenau gwent then about twenty five years ago .so i spent a bit of time there then .and i drove through there last week it aint changed a lot apart from the pits gone .. i knew a lot of boys over there in them days good lads as well .

I've got land in Hereford mate, and in Morton and cannon pine all near each other, plus have land Evesham, pershore , upton , little other side of Worcester by rushwich, and loads around Gloucester where I come from. Just when I go local up the mountains like company, I will be honest I do hunt with someone local here and there but he's hardly out at night and only really ferrets once or twice a week, not my cuppa so when I do go local would be good for some good company plus with way terrain it is don't fancy having an injury and being on tod up there as your be fecked lol

it used to be rotten around morten and marden especially in marden i remember once down by the railway house in marden i done 17 rabbits in one field in the seats with the catty .now youd be lucky to see 17 all over there cannon pyon was another good spot as well loads there and plenty of hares there .a couple of years ago by the kenchester church around both sides of the road me and a lad called kieth whos got a fair bit of permiss around there had i think it was 85 from there but thays wiped out now .theres a few lads there i know in the village are out 24/7 every day and night of the year no matter what the weather plus theres another couple up the road doing the same thing so its bound to take its toll on em .through morten into sutton was another good spot myself and one of my sons had one bit of a night there last year we had 30 from there and there were a few hares about there as well but they seem to have all gone as well. .on down the road from there past the cemetery onto the main road behind the cross keys pub and around the fields either side there used to be loads of game there .but theres boys at it all the time. its a case of travelling further a field now .to find numbers i love my sport and have done all my life but i struggle to get into it if the numbers aint on the ground i travelled hundreds of miles last season sometimes driving for four hours to go lamping out all night then four hours drive home .but great sport when your into big numbers .theres still a few hotbeds around south wales where numbers can be had but not many .one place is portcawl bridgend and ogmore theres plenty to get at there both on the merthyr mawr and tyhegstone estates and around pyle there used to be a few .ogmore golf club was another spot it was rotten up there a few year back

Aye mate your right Morton and around there has been hit hard but there are still a few gems there if you know the right places, marden is crap now not much at all there, I have around 9000 acres around Herefordshire but most I don't do, unless I'm out with the camera on the bambi, take few shots ;). There is a good few spots up burg hill way but it's s complicated walk if you don't know the area lol plenty there but most my good land is round Gloucester way heading then towards pershore and evesham, I have around 25000 acres from Gloucester towards that way. newent and places there hold well and a few places in ledbury, but thsts very hsrd to get permission on the estate, you mentioned fields by cross keys pub used to be full , which was correct, there's a bloke who owns 4 salukis and a number of ferrets and he hits it very hard now , only lives few hundred meters from the pub, you are right tho you do have to get out further a field for a good night. but I can go local and still get 30 runs plus a night on the mountains. Which don't sound alot but running up and down the contours really get them fit. not easy to catch but gets them fit and sharp for the good nights

Bit out of order mate. The local area is getting hammered enough as it is. . . . . . how's about leaving a few standing for others . . . .

how am I being out of order, yes I hunt alot, yes alot local but not like others I don't just go one side I go plenty of places. How do you know where I'm talking about. One mountain gets hammered jai that's the one I don't really do anymore. funny enough it's the one you travel to do lol, I found many a places away from that mountain, a good few miles away and it's full of game which your buddy for sure might walk once a season on the lamp or with a ferret that's even if he has a clue if the rabbits are there, I walk 3 miles before the lamp gets switched on now, I work my ass off to get to the game, and to find it.

Mate I know these mountains better than you ever will been doing them since before you were born...........I'm out ferreting nearly every day not 2/3 times a week.

You see I hunt by myself most of the time because when you show people your ground then you take a chance that they're not going to run it by themselves..........start inviting people off here to "your" ground and see how long the rabbits last.I haven't been getting out lamping as my leg is fecked and you've got my lamp so I can't get out when I want.

I'l bring the lamp down tonight for you then mate I offer all the time to go so you can't use that one, and I only live 500meters from your house so it's hardly far to ask for it, I understand about your leg and it's no dig. The land round here is no ones land it's not mine, same as it's not yours. yes you know the lay out but answer honestly how often do you walk it and when you do what's the furthest you go. I go 3 miles plus before the lamp even gets turned on that's further away then I think I've ever walked with you in all the times we have gone. I would never contemplate in taking lads to the side me and you go as I've always said even tho it's poaching I see it as your ground, I don't even take family when there over for a mooch. but like you said because of your leg you havnt been able to get to spots that you could when you were younger due to your leg. So at the moment I would say I know spots where there's rabs where this season I'm almost 100% sure you havnt been

No whin not at all but when I go local I try new areas things change each year and so do rabbit populations, I just walk untill my legs cant carry me anymore, me and jonnyboy have an understanding he knows it's not a dig same as I know his post isn't a dig. He is a determined man the same as me to find game lol. we both hunt the same and when were out together it's in good company and I bash those ear drums to get the knowledge stored out of there haha lol
