6pack 60
and people wonder why there is so much shit being sold . culling has been done since day dot and only in recent years we have seen an influx in wanky pups being born and sold because the cuddly wuddly brigade wont cull. Or because every moron thinks his dog is worthy breeding? 2 Quote Link to post
Learning curve 0
Have you SEEN the general standard of labs about these days. . . . . ? Yes, head on over to the UK Labrador forums and you will see some amazing working Labs, you wouldn't buy a whippet you want to work from a pet breeder, no one would and it's the same with every working dog type. There is no harm in them going to pet homes at all, the border collie is now everywhere, my pack stands at four, three working and one rescued pet and you can pick out the pet in a second. http://www.flickr.com/photos/learnin_curve/5776293397/ Quote Link to post

danw 1,748
I got to agree with Ideation re the state of labs, for every one lab as has a proper head, thick set and otter tailed you see 10 snipe nosed poorly conformed slight set collie looking things. Quote Link to post

old timer123 367
You say its a gamble ideation and breeding does involve a degree of luck. But what would be worse having the best dog out the litter owned by a Messer breeding the c**t out of it or never knowing if it existed? And oldtimer I am of the opinion it is far too easy to get working dogs these days. I had followed and old guy about learning the trade since I was knee height before he offered me a dog. If everyone had to do this instead of simply opening an account on here then maybe there wouldn't be as .uch shite about, maybe there would be more respect for livestock, dogs, quarry and the sport in general. And maybe there wouldnt be as many cases of pricks ripping cats apart in the newspapers. FTB agreed Quote Link to post

jason9090 11
If I breed a litter , it,s my responsibility to home the pups , they stay with me till they are found good homes , however long that takes. well said although im not innocent as few of us are i always find that price reflects surely lowering the price t give a young lad a chance is the best answer the pups may be worth 300 each but dead there of no value Quote Link to post

Simoman 110
What seems apparent is that there are lots of different views on what a runt is. Yes very much so, to me a runt is an sickly puppy, others seem to think every litter must have a runt and just because a pup may be smaller than some of its littermates it must be a runt............ skycat 6,173
A runt is a smaller, much smaller: usually half the size or less than its littermates. It's head seems too big for its body, and it can't suck properly. I have a theory on this, that this very small, seemingly underdeveloped pup, could have implanted into the uterus later than its siblings, therefore being born slightly too early. The other theory is that runts seem to be more common in very large litters, and that the runt is the pup which got the worst place along the uterine tubes, thereby not getting enough nutrients from its dam, and also not having enough room to develop properly. Like I said, a true runt is very much smaller than normal, not just a little pup. I've only ever had two runts, and they were both in terrier litters numbering more than 8 in total, which is a very big litter for a terrier. Quote Link to post
