1st night out and the disaster>>

Recommended Posts

WELL Me and my brother decided last night was the night when we were going to start our lamping season!

Normally we start in october but due to me having trouble with my heart this last 7 months we held back a bit til I got a bit better.

(and no im not a big fat lazy git!)

So anyway we decided to jump straight in the deep end and hit the golf course bunnies!

We started off really good 15 runs 5 rabbits thats really good for us on the golf course.

We decided to check some old fields to see how the rabbits were doing there put the lamp on and happy days!

So we had 12 slips between them and 8 rabbits, then we decided to check the last field put the lamp on just as we entered the field,

a rabbit was sitting right underneath an oak tree he was super lamp shy as soon as the lamp hit him he was like a spring!

Slipped ryfudd off about 50 yds from him he was gaining right up his arse rabbit jumped into a trench about 3ft deep and 4 1/2 ft wide ryfudd leaped and there was a massive rock!! on the other side,

we saw him hit it and go flying straight over it and with it an almighty slap sound and I knew what happened and I thought oh f&*k he has split his chest open!

My brother run over to him he was about 120yds away I put the lamp on him and he was just standing still thank god he was still alive, I eventually got over there with my brother and his 2 front legs had a really bad knock the 1 leg was split open on the knuckle it was absolutely gushing out with blood.

We managed to stop the blood with field dressing it took us about 15 minutes to stop the bleeding, my brother run on down to get our van which was a couple of miles away,

I couldn't carry the dog all the way as he was just too heavy for me.

I was struggling with the bog in the field as it was going up to my knees.

Anyway we managed to get the dog to the van got him home seen a vet he has sprained both of his knuckles and his wrists, he has got an inch gash on his wrist and a smaller gash on the other wrist, his chest is missing a pile of fur but apart from that he is ok thank f*%k! I

got to be fair to him he didn't show any pain he didn't even make a noise when he hit the rock and when we got to him he was still looking around for rabbits! I am hoping now that he should make a few weeksrecovery. :good:.

Thanks for the concerned replies, just been out with him now and he is looking really well as if nothing as happened! He's still swollen but not as bad as it was. I think if it had been my other lurcher I don't think the situation would have been the same I think she would have definitely broke her two front legs! I'm going to make a good first aid kit for the dogs and myself because being in a situation like that is something I don't want to be in again! I think I got off very lightly with this one!
