The Duncan 802
Hi folks, I know that you'll always find someone who'll say that .17hmr is not enough gun for fox, and others that say you can kill them out to 1000 yards etc etc, but, as the HO guidelines state that you can shoot foxes with the hummer, what kind of range would most practitioners say is a max? Furthermore, do I presume correctly that headshots are the order of the day? Cheers all, Duncan Quote Link to post
zx10mike 137
its all about ammo the 20 grn hollow is fine for fox ballistic tipped will do the job but you run thr risk of wounding Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
YES the hmr will kill foxes at a sensible range, but please get a proper tool for the job a .22 hornet is superb out to 200 yds cheap to reload and quiet when moderated, far more up to the task, and bucks the wind so much better, no brainer really Quote Link to post

The Duncan 802
I occasionaly get within 50 yards of them and was contemplating a headshot at this range. I've got the 20grn stuff for the purpose. For me it is only an occasional thing and at present, I don't see it becoming a big paret of my pest control. If it does, I'd go for a cf as the regular fox busting tool. Cheers D. Quote Link to post

Agreed the HMR is not permitted for fox in my area and IMO rightly so, if it's close enough then yes it will do the job but there are far better rounds more suited for the task. Quote Link to post
