There is one thing I don't understand about shooting photos on forums. If a dog man put up a photo of a dead animal with its guts hanging out, they would be slaughtered on the internet, so how come it is acceptable to put photos of such things if the animal has been shot? I'm genuinely not having a go here, but I fail to understand how one is acceptable, the other is not.

Edited to add: IMO photos of dead animals with guts hanging out or otherwise mangled and very bloody, is not acceptable on any open forum, no matter how the animal was killed. IMO it shows all hunters, shooters or dog men, in a bad light, as though that person was somehow loving the blood and gore.

Agreed, when I first joined this site I commented on folks posting pics with blood and gore ( particularly foxes ) imo wasn,t doing anybody any favours and I got hammered for it, now I just don,t comment

And that's one of the reasons there are fewer hares about in certain areas of England nowadays: quite a few times I've found rifled hares on my land: just left, because the shooter shot them from ove

I have said it before; Not so long ago we took pride in what we did, respected our quarry if you like.

These days, and it's not just on here! There seems to be a culture or a fraternity that has no real understanding of the countryside and has the sole wish to mess an animal up, so gruesomely it is hard to distinguish as to what species the bloody remains belong.

Blowing the guts out of a fox and glorifying the mangled remains with photos and then displaying them for all to see, seems a little perverse and deeply worrying.

I don't really publish what I shoot, I can not see the point. Last night I shot a fox, it was a head shot. No need for photos and I am sure the chaps who are out shooting foxes have little interest in seeing yet another young fox. I am sure the people who thrive on these photographs of mangled animals are the people who don't really get out much. The issue to my mind is that new comers to the sport may think it's big or normal to take pride in splatting an animals stomach all over the place. It's not and frankly it shows no respect at all for the animal.

And before anyone thinks (wrongly) I am pointing the finger, I am not.

Those that know me will know i have the utmost respect for quarry both alive and dead .What i try to show is as it is,the truth , real life and rugged .Animals do die tidily sometimes when shot but in the main most dont and i wouldnt insult the memory of an individual by altering its form in death .I used to be an avid lurchermen and still work terriers but the lurchers have been overtaken by the gun in my list of priorities .I can honestly say ive taken nearly every species of runable game there is so please no preaching , the passion has dwindled but not gone .I still go out with a few mates with lurchers and i love it but not enough to own a running dog myself ,cant say fairer than that .Yes ,it was titled to get a rise from the dog lads but not because it rubs salt in sore wounds, just as a follow on to our other post on hares and because the lads are easy to wind up ,another of my passions .Its very easy to judge someone from a keyboard but in reality,i'm the one out doing it and more than most i know that .Graphic pics of dead quarry are not what the antis care about its the whole thing about us actually enjoying what we do .So if some if my posts are deaply worrying and perverse then dont view when you see my user name ,cant say fairer than that either. My way of life involves killing as does yours or you wouldnt be on here ,killing involves a certain amount of blood and gore so why get assy about what real life entails ,my real life anyway .

With all due respect, what a load of old cobblers! Are you seriously telling me if a member of your family got run over by a bus, you would place the crushed corps on the church alter tyre mark and all? Obviously not.

The reason you publish gory photographs, as with most experienced shooters is for effect and the resultant following you get from praise which makes you feel good. It has nothing at all to do with hard line journalism bringing the arm chair hunter "true" images from the fields of war.

My point of view is this. You are obviously experienced and good at "hunting", then set an example. Show the quarry off in a respectful manner, ten dead foxes shown respectfully is to my mind just as good as ten dead foxes with their intestines flapping around the place.

If you honestly think it is normal for people to take pleasure in seeing an animals internal organs falling out of it's body then to be honest I am wasting my fingers typing this. The result will be a bunch of half wits glorifying what you have done but lose the respect of the slightly more experienced amongst your peers.

Just wanted to highlight something you typed "very easy to judge someone from a keyboard".

It's equally easier to misjudge someone, which is why we need to show restraint and ethics in our posts. Glorifying a blood lust shows neither.

Nuff said from me. Do as you see fit.

With all due respect to Ian and the team for providing and facilitating such an excellent site I really have to say that I'm finding the whole 'posting a topic issue' turning into an absolute ball-ache. IMO the whole site is being driven into the ground by high-and-bloody mighty opinions derived from the experts pulling apart every minute detail of a post and how they'd do it better. No wonder people who actually get out there and do it can hardly be bothered posting accounts of their trips out as they feel bound to justify everything afterwards - thats why the site is filling up with boring repetitive posts that the search facility could answer 100 times over.

Personally I welcome any topic where someone has actually gone out and done something and pictures help bring the trip (and the site) to life bit more - sausages, missing heads and big holes are a reality of shooting small animals with high velocity bullets so and taking a picture of the business end of the terminal balistics has nothing to do with a lack of respect for the quarry. When I'm out its whack one over, quick pic, go get another one.

As for the soap-box dog lot I'd really love to know how many of them actually have experience practising what the preach... of have even seen a hare / fox within 'fair-law' of their single-handed wonder dog - not many i'll bet, not any most. If you don't like it go have a pot-noodle and a wank before you mum gets home and stop posting shite in this section.

I get out. I just don't find the need to "prove" anything to anyone. It's not your posts that are obnoxious.

Matter of fact I'm off out now, would you like a photo of a fox? Rabbits? Don't really hoard photos, but will collect some if you like?

I really haven't an issue with what I do, it's my living as well.

Now where were you and what was your point again?

ok then John - fair enough. How about you stick you head above the parapet at get a couple of threads up... setting an example whislt contributing to the site instead of just pulling down other peoples threads with the benefit of your opinion. I dont' need to see gore so you can stage the photo's how you like.
