on buying in a grown dog,be it a lurcher, terrier or guard dog etc,I never have in many a year or never will again..I prefer to buy a pup and let it grow with the household.I had the oppertunity to buy a fully trained guard dog but two things put me off,1st was I would never trust the dog as I wouldnt know what he had experienced in his younger days and 2 I was not experienced at all with dogs for protecting the house so i decided to buy young and we'd learn together.I prefer to buy my lurchers as pups and then I enjoy the basic training that comes with him.Its great watching your dog develope into a proficient worker,or maybe not so great if he doesnt, lol. As for terriers I could see myself taking on an adult terrier as I dont usually get too wrapped up emotionally with them(sorry, dont know why)but all my terriers in the last years were brought in as pups.Whats your view on this.If you buy in adult or developing worker why do you prefer this, and if you stick with pups what reason?I once over 20 years ago was given free a collie/hound from a friend that was 4 years old and was a top lamping dog,big bags no problem but I never bonded with him.he was aloof and wary of me for a long time.We did get it together kind of but he died from dropsy shortly afterwards.Saying that I had a 5/8X3/8 pit gryhound and raised him from a pup and a 3/4 greyhoundX1/4 pit and never took to them either, and I swore Id never keep one again, but thats another subject entirely.Your views are appreciated.

its funny youve put this up me and my mate were short on terriers this year we had a russell of someone one supposed to be a grafter wanted a fair price took it on trial useless he had the dog back after hearing what we thought of the dog anyway decent terriers are hard to get hold of at the best of times we seen a dog on here off zebo went to fetch the dog and asked him a few questions he told us it aint really done much the dog was 300 pound decision time took the gamble when first taken out didnt show to much promise to be honest was a bit gutted as you canner believe any one what they tell you like to see things with my own eyes from that day everytime we took the dog out we seen a inprovement in him cut a long story short dug to him last week in a puppy earth today we had a good do at 4 foot you couldnt fault the dog.i as prob most lads on this site when buying adult dogs allways think there summit amiss this time it looks promising and a good start for the dog.i dont like buying adult dogs i like to breed my own pups that way i know what there out of and what they have come from there is the odd exception when buying older dogs as i am of the thinking that no one gets rid of a decent dog and most likely you are buying someone elses mistakes unless you are being giffted older dogs off of close mates no disrespect to anyone on here but when it comes to dogs i trust no c*nt i believe my eyes hence trusting close mates atb ks

very good reply and good to hear the terrier is heading in the right direction.Thats another oul chestnut with me,not too keen on breeding pups either,I dont mind it if I only have a few dogs but its a recepie for disaster if your boged down with dogs and dont have the space.Im a bit suspicious too when an older dog is for sale, theres lots of genuine lads out there but theres even more peddlers.

I wouldn't buy in an adult dog, mainly because I have 3 young kids, so wouldn't trust one that wasn't raised in my home.

But also because no one sells a good dog, you will always be buying in some one elses problem imho.
