Permission letters?

Recommended Posts

I don't wish to p**s on your fire mate, but if you don't know the farmers personally, the letter's will more than likely end up in the fire before they've read past the first line.

Far better to take the time and go introduce yourself, be polite and explain what exactly it is you want, and tell them if you've got any other farmers who'll vouch for you. Don't expect anything immediate, and if the answer is no, ask if it's ok to pop back in a few months time just to see if the situation's changed.

ATB and good luck

I've got the addresses to a load of farms that I'm gonna send some letters asking for permission to, what do you put in yours, how do you word certain things ect? Thinking I'm just gonna ask for ferreting to start with.

No disrespect mate but put yourself in a farmers shoes....or shit coated wellies. What farmer is going to spend the time reading a letter from some bloke or lass that he has never met before asking if they could use his land for their sport. It aint gonna happen.

Turn up in person, dressed well and in a clean car. Not in your imprezza and camo trousers. Be polite, leave all your contact details mobile numbers are ok IF you have a land line number too. The last thing a land owner wants is some chav tearing around his land with a lamp and dogs if he can't vouch for them when the police turn up saying theyy've had a report of illegal hunting acts being carriedd out on his land......because there is always someone who's looking out for something dodgy going on. So be as square with him as possible. references are always good as long as they are from reputable folk. Insurane details always help too.

Its hard work getting permission sometimes but its well worth it in the long run. You may end up with more than you can walk once you've builtyour relationship up a bit. I've even managed to catch a couple of days driven shooting through hard work good results and a helpful polite disposition.

Good luck mate

Take the letters with you, and try to go at a time when they're not busy. Above all else remember three things:

Patience, patience, and more patience. The reward of a bit of permission will be well worth it

as already said go and knock in person and hand them a letter put in the letter ,that you will always ring before going on there land ,also state that its there land and there rules, also say that you also want to do one off ferreting jobs ,this way the farmer can see how you perform befor commiting himself ,dress smart and be polite (even if there not )first impression is everthing ,its taken me over 2 years to get some decent permission and now i have loads but im being watched like a hawk ,as the farmer just dont trust anyone .but the top and bottom is hes got plenty of rabbits that he needs to get rid off . and so have lots of other farmers .its just a case of getting your foot in the door ,
