iceman001979 1,316
ive only gave one good ferreting dog away to good home at 6 as she was not suiting my needs fallon,i think a good ferreting dog you need time and patience to train them ,or good bits to school them ,and fereting is a team event dog ferets locators spade , nets s why give one of the team away caut thirties with dog and ferret no nets so a handy asset so is a dog that knecks his game and clean kils them before the ban etc , worth there weight , a good ferreting dog is handy but a good allrounder more in my eyes you probably hit the nail on the head there whin you gave it away with ferreting men its not about money He give it away at 6 so took him 6 years to find out that it did not suit him does not make any sense Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,814
ice man you take a dog out with mother under control let her see warren let her smell warren ,same with at nite on a nite out take pup under control let him smell game see game but you must no your dogs ,im afraid you mabye dont understand that way ,and not got the places to suit pup, i do so, it suits me and several others ,im wanting a dog to be a hunting dog calm sensible and deadly ,not a trained robot or a dog that pulls u about there many dog trainers but not many good dog men ,you need time land places to go to train them how and several others do it we have all mot got that luxury mate but it works well under the [bANNED TEXT] owner l brought my own dog out with her mother when she was old enough,6 7 months old plus nothing less.Yes the pup gets walked though sheep brought on walks where there is rabbits and stuff about but not out hunting but that is you way not mine. Pup as to be field wise before going on it 1st hunting.Able to get over rivers, fences over or though and gates able to walk though live stock with out running about worrying them.PUP AS SO MUCH TO LEARN BEFORE ITS 1ST HUNT no ones saying they let a 3 month old pup run a rabbit,,, if you think catching bolters is a ferreting dogs only purpose,, it lerns field wise as you call it whilst learning the skill of ferreting,, all at the same time,,, take it on its own let it lern from its own mistakes,,, not have to bow down to an older dog. whin 463
my pup sees afew warrens a few things hapenin then away back home or taken out the road so it does not get to exited , its all about easy entring and short and sweet , any body trained a dog to a feild trail standard as a pup the same a little bit at a time but let it see whats happening the soon lean and by the time they are old enough they are well ready and schooled Quote Link to post

Keeps 403
A good dog that has put the work in for you, deserves a place by your own fireside, not somebody elses.... Good adult dogs of any kind are hard to come by, because people don't sell them on. Quote Link to post
